Ben “Benthings” Maglaque was a roamer for TNC Pro Team in Mobile Legends: Bang Bang Philippines (MPL PH).
During this time as a pro player, he was considered an important member on the team, one who could uplift the morale of all players even during difficult times.
He is known not just for being a great play-maker, but also for his love of anime, evidenced by his intricate tattoos.
As he transitions to a coaching role for Season 13, Ben sat down for an exclusive interview with ONE Esports to share the deeper meanings behind his anime-inspired ink.
Benthings explains the significance of his anime tattoos
The first tattoo that catches the eye is Hanamichi Sakuragi from Slam Dunk, inspired by the then player’s situation back in Season 9.
When asked about this choice, he explained, “Sakuragi embodies hard work. I resonated with his journey because, like him, I started as a bench player. But through perseverance and dedication, I proved that nothing is impossible.”
Bent then showed his tattoo of Gon from Hunter X Hunter, a character known for his unwavering determination and positive demeanor.
“Gon’s character teaches me to stay focused on my goals, maintain a friendly attitude, and never judge others,” Benthings remarked, emphasizing the importance of positivity and determination in his own life.
Another notable tattoo is Chrollo Lucifer, also from Hunter X Hunter, symbolizing strategic genius and tactical prowess.
Benthings explained, “Chrollo’s ability to devise complex strategies inspired me to think critically and strategically, both in-game and in life.”
Adding a personal touch and right above his Chrollo tattoo, Benthings proudly displayed a tattoo of his fiancee’s name, Dayen, in Japanese characters, showcasing his deep affection and commitment to their relationship.
When asked about his Killua tattoo, Benthings chuckled, revealing that it’s more of a fan tribute than a symbol with deep meaning.
“I just really love Hunter X Hunter, and Killua is one of my favorite characters,” he admitted, showing a lighter side to his tattoo collection.
