Jujutsu Kaisen

Whether it is Jujutsu Kaisen’s beginning or the fast-approaching ending, Jujutsu Kaisen is one of the many shonen manga that draw a lot of similarities to Demon Slayer, may it be the dark theme, a story set around demons, or the prodigal protagonists who were strangers to their own potential.

Similar to Tanjiro, Yuji Itadori, the main protagonist in Jujutsu Kaisen, is suddenly pulled into the world of Jujutsu Sorcerers, the vanguard protecting humanity from curses, after swallowing the cursed finger of Sukuna, the king of curses.

What further makes Jujutsu Kaisen very similar to Demon Slayer is that both series have a kind-hearted protagonist with empathy towards others, a fate tying them to the world of demons/curses, and the fact that both the protagonist’s primary goal is to defeat the king of demons/curses despite the vast power disparity.

Tokyo Ghoul

Tokyo Ghoul is another excellent manga for people who love reading Demon Slayer.

It offers a similar dark fantasy theme with an organization hunting down ghouls terrorizing humans, eating them to become more powerful, and eventually scheming the end of humanity.

Besides the similar vibes that these two manga share, they have similar endings as both protagonists become “kings” in a sense, and their close ones coming to their rescue because, as we all know, even the hero sometimes need saving.

There’s a whole lot more that makes Black Clover quite similar to Demon Slayer, even though the two don’t share a singular similar theme or setting.

For people who haven’t heard about Black Clover, it is a shonen manga set in a fictional world where people are born with magic. The story follows Asta, a young, skilled swordsman who was born with no magic but instead a unique grimoire holding a demon inside, granting him anti-magic powers.

That being said, for people interested in checking out Black Clover, unlike Demon Slayer, its story starts slow and needs time to become more riveting. However, it makes up for it in the latter half of the story, so do give it some time.

Sousei no Onmyouji

Sousei no Onmyouji shares a similar supernatural theme to Demon Slayer and is very similar to the latter in many aspects. For example, like the Demon Slayer Corps fighting the demons, in Sousei no Onmyouji, the exorcists fight evil spirits called Kegare to save humanity.

Like the 12 Hashiras in Demon Slayer, Sousei no Onmyouji has 12 Heavenly Guardians, the strongest exorcists who hold the bastion against the Kegare. Moreover, like the 12 upper and lower Demon Moons, we have the 12 Basaras, powerful evolved impurities.

That said, Sousei no Onmyouji’s story revolves around the male lead, Rokuro Enmado and female lead, Benio Adashino, who lost their close ones and are destined to cleanse all Kegares from the world. Like Tanjiro and Nezuko losing their family in Demon Slayer, Rokuro and Benio too lost their close ones.

The overall concept of male and female protagonists joining an organization to defeat evil spirits, save the world, and ensure no other person loses their friends and family to evil spirits makes Sousei no Onmyouji very similar to Demon Slayer. It’s a must read for fans who have completed the latter’s story and are looking for another demons versus humans themed manga to read.

Blue Exorcist

If Tanjiro’s wholesome attitude towards his sister Nezuko, and the two siblings complimenting each other during their many battles together were what drew you to Demon Slayer, Blue Exorcist is a manga that you shouldn’t miss out on.

The story of Blue Exorcists revolves around two siblings, Rin Okumura, and his twin brother, Yukio Okumura. The two become exorcists to defeat Satan, the demon king, despite both being his sons.

Similar to how Tanjiro joined the Demon Slayer Corps with the intent to turn his sister back into a human while saving human lives from demons, Rin enrols at True Cross Academy, a school for nurturing exorcists under the True Cross Order to protect the world from demons.
