Bleach TYBW part 3 episode 10 recap
The episode resumed with Mayuri Kurotsuchi’s battle against Pernida, the Left Arm of the Soul King. Mayuri conversed with his modified Bankai, asking about its condition and reflecting on his decision to avoid altering it with teeth. He believed such an adjustment could have allowed Pernida to multiply inside it.
Ashisogi Jizo, Mayuri’s Bankai, began to deform as Pernida attacked from within. Pernida appeared wielding a Quincy bow and arrow, mocking Mayuri by mimicking his laughter and reminding him of its Quincy nature.
Mayuri, unfazed by the taunts, acknowledged the claim but expressed surprise at Pernida’s audacity to label itself a Quincy. As the battle continued, Mayuri noticed subtle changes in Pernida’s speech patterns, suspecting it was undergoing some form of evolution.
Pernida fired arrows laced with nerves at Mayuri. One grazed his left arm, forcing him to sever it to prevent further damage. As Mayuri dodged more arrows, he observed a Holy Arrow rebounding off the ground and altering its trajectory toward him.
Before the arrow could hit him, Nemu, Mayuri’s lieutenant, intercepted it, cutting off her arm in the process. Mayuri scolded her for acting without orders, warning her that falling to the ground would have turned her into a “meatball.” Despite his anger, Nemu believed Mayuri needed her as a shield in the fight.
After retreating to a safer location, Mayuri questioned Nemu about whether she had begun acting on her own will. She remained silent, prompting Mayuri to refer to her by her name, Nemuri Nanago.
Mayuri reflected on their shared battles and asked if she understood the toll it would take on him to create her successor. When Nemu admitted she did not, Mayuri scolded her, ordering her never to act on her judgment again. A flashback revealed a moment from Nemu’s creation, where she saw Mayuri for the first time.
Returning to the battlefield, Mayuri devised a plan to neutralize Pernida’s arrows by spraying an anesthetic across the area and having Nemu inject a nerve-coagulating agent into one of the arrows.
Nemu followed his orders, but Pernida severed its own finger to avoid the agent’s effects. Mayuri noticed that Pernida’s speech and behavior had started resembling Kenpachi Zaraki’s, realizing that it had adapted after attaching its nerves to Zaraki during their earlier encounter.
Pernida continued to evolve, shedding its skin to remove the coagulating agent’s effects, mimicking Mayuri’s Bankai ability. Witnessing this, Mayuri understood the full extent of Pernida’s evolutionary abilities and concluded that it would be impossible for Nemu to evade its attacks. Pernida’s adaptation posed a significant challenge, and Mayuri braced himself for the worst.
In a flashback, Akon revealed the history of Mayuri’s Nemuri Project, explaining how earlier artificial souls failed. Each failure provided new data for future iterations, culminating in the current Nemu, who had already surpassed the expected lifespan of her predecessors. Akon noted that Mayuri felt immense pride in Nemu despite his reserved nature.
In the present, Nemu leaped into the air, grabbing Mayuri and bursting through Pernida’s hands with her enhanced speed. Mayuri was astonished by her strength but furious that she had accelerated her movements at the cost of her decomposition rate. He reminded her that her purpose was to grow and evolve, not destroy herself.
Nemu reassured Mayuri, explaining that she could demonstrate her growth in combat. She sacrificed 6 percent of her Konpaku Cells to deliver a concentrated attack, obliterating much of Pernida.
As Nemu descended, fragments of Pernida began to regain sentience, setting the stage for a tragic turn. Pernida’s nerves infiltrated Nemu’s body, shredding her apart. Mayuri could only watch Nemu being destroyed.
Amid his despair, Szayelaporro Grantz appeared in Mayuri’s mind as a vision. Szayelaporro reminded him of his scientific resolve and pursuit of perfection, explaining that Nemu was not yet a “perfect” being.
These words helped Mayuri accept her loss, recognizing that she had room to grow. Meanwhile, Pernida consumed Nemu’s remains to absorb her data.
As Pernida attempted to devour Nemu’s cerebrum, Mayuri quickly secured it. He revealed that Nemu’s pituitary gland contained a formula designed to induce self-destruction if consumed without the cerebrum.
Pernida began to disintegrate, and Mayuri escaped with Nemu’s brain in hand. Yumichika and Ikkaku arrived to assist Mayuri, transporting him and Kenpachi Zaraki to safety.
Mayuri reflected on the battle as he prepared to place himself and Zaraki in regeneration pods. Yumichika and Ikkaku expressed their gratitude before leaving. Now alone, Mayuri considered his accomplishments, believing he had finally surpassed Kisuke Urahara by creating an artificial soul capable of independent evolution.
The episode concluded with a shift to Liltotto and Giselle infiltrating Yhwach’s castle. Facing hordes of guards, Giselle summoned zombified versions of Meninas, Candice, and Bambi to aid in the fight. However, they soon realized the guards bore strange eyes resembling Yhwach’s Soul King absorption state. Elsewhere, Bazz B confronted Jugram, ready for a decisive showdown.
