Bleach TYBW episode 11 part 3 recap

Bleach TYBW episode 37 began with a flashback featuring Shunsui Kyoraku, his elder brother, and Nanao’s mother.

Shunsui’s brother gave Nanao’s mother—a woman he deeply cared for—a pair of hairpins. She kept one for herself and asked him to hold onto the other, saying it comforted her that he wore it while fighting on the battlefield.

In the present, Shunsui’s Bankai failed to defeat Lille Barro, who struck him with a beam of light. Lille cursed Shunsui for challenging him and transformed into a monstrous form that combined human, centaur, and owl-like features.

Lille’s wings and halo turned golden, and his mouth became a beak. In this new form, Lille gained total intangibility and the ability to regenerate any injuries.

Lille extended his arm and unleashed a devastating attack called Divine Judgement, forcing Shunsui to escape barely. Ohana urged Shunsui to let her carry him away, but he closed his eyes, seemingly resigned to his fate. At that moment, Shunsui heard a voice calling him.

When he opened his eyes, Nanao stood before him, demanding he give her his blade. Seeing his hesitation, Nanao frantically told him there was no time to think.

Lille returned, furious, and condemned Nanao for returning after escaping earlier. He attacked with another Divine Judgement, but Shunsui and Nanao disappeared into the shadows.

Realizing they had escaped into the darkness, Lille began generating a massive ball of light to erase the surrounding shadows. However, he failed to remove all of them, and Nanao appeared, holding a Zanpakuto wrapped in cloth.

Shunsui summoned Kyokotsu, and Nanao questioned if the weapon was her Zanpakuto. Shunsui explained that it was, but only partially. He then revealed the history of the Ise Clan.

The clan was a matrilineal family where only women were born. They married men from other families to continue the bloodline, but a curse killed any man who wed into the clan. While most dismissed the curse as superstition, Nanao’s mother believed it was real and sought to break it.

In an attempt to end the curse, Nanao’s mother married into another family, hoping to erase the Ise bloodline. However, her husband—Shunsui’s elder brother—died shortly after.

Before he passed, he entrusted Shunsui with his hairpin, which Shunsui wore to this day. Nanao’s mother was later executed for misplacing the Ise family’s sacred heirloom.

Shunsui explained that Nanao’s mother believed the heirloom Zanpakuto, Shinken Hakkyoken, was the source of the curse. Desperate to protect her unborn child, she entrusted the sword to Shunsui and asked him to hide it.

Shunsui, honoring her wish, had Kyokotsu conceal the weapon. Nanao overheard this conversation and learned the truth.

Years later, during her academy days, Nanao excelled in Kido but could not give form to her Asauchi. She was eventually scouted into the 8th Division, where Shunsui served as captain. When she noticed Shunsui no longer wore the kimono or the hairpin, she realized he was the man her mother had trusted with the sword.

Back on the battlefield, Lille Barro prepared his final attack by transforming his ability into a massive trumpet called Trompete, releasing an overwhelming light.

Nanao stood ready with Shinken Hakkyoken, and Shunsui, standing behind her, steadied her as she firmly gripped the blade. Lille launched his attack, but Nanao reflected it back at him. The counterattack pierced Lille and disintegrated him completely.

As the battle ended, Shunsui expressed a desire to catch up with the others but fell to the ground, exhausted and at his limit.
