Updated on June 24, 7:00 p.m. (GMT+8): Added season 2 exact release date.
The egotistical strikers are sharpening their cleats with the Blue Lock season 2 release date fast approaching.
Blue Lock is an anime adaptation of the popular sports manga series written by Muneyuki Kaneshiro and illustrated by Yusuke Nomura.
The anime was adapted by 8-bit, with season 1 airing from October 9, 2022, to March 26, 2023
The story centers on Yoichi Isagi, a talented high school footballer with a burning ambition to become the world’s best striker and lead Japan to World Cup glory.
However, the Japanese national team lacks a ruthless, game-changing striker with the killer instinct to secure victories.
The matches resume in Blue Lock season 2
Season 1 began with the Introduction arc, where 300 of Japan’s most promising under-20 (U-20) strikers received an unexpected invitation. Mastermind Ego Jinpachi, tasked with forging a world-class striker for the Japanese national team, launched the radical Blue Lock program.
Blue Lock created an environment that transformed the talented forwards into rivals, forcing them to compete in a series of rigorous Selection arcs.
Each arc served as an elimination round, with only the strongest players advancing. Viewers of season 1 witnessed the grueling Third Selection arc, which whittled down the competition, setting the stage for the UA-20 arc.
Season 2 promises an electrifying showdown, with all eyes on Rin Itoshi, Blue Lock’s best player. He faces off against his older brother, Sae Itoshi, the star player of the Japan U-20 team.
Blue Lock season 2 key visual
On May 30, 2024, a new teaser visual was revealed featuring characters in Blue Lock season 2. These footballers include season 1 characters Yoichi Isagi, Meguru Bachira, Seishiro Nagi, and Rin Itoshi.
The visual also highlights the second selection characters Eita Otoya, Kenyu Yukimiya, Nijiro Nanase, Tabito Karasu, Yo Hiori, Ryusei Shido, and Sae Itoshi.
Two more cast members have been announced: Eiji Mikami will voice Yo Hiori, and Kakeru Hatano will play Nanase Nijiro. Mikami and Hatano are up-and-coming seiyuu in Japanese anime.
Blue Lock season 2 release date
On June 24, 2024, 8-bit announced that the season 2 release date is on October 5, 2024.
Interestingly, the announcement date coincided with Seishiro Nagi’s birthday, the protagonist of the prequel movie Blue Lock Episode Nagi.
The animation team released a special sketch featuring Isagi in the spotlight, with Nagi and Reo Mikage, the main characters from the Blue Lock movie Episode Nagi, stepping out of the pitch.
Season 2 is expected to have 24 episodes, similar to the first season.
