Chainsaw Man chapter 171 recap

Chapter 171 shows a tense discussion between Denji and one of the Chainsaw Man Church’s leaders, who reveals their true goals and the whereabouts of Nayuta – Denji’s adoptive sister.

The second saga of Chainsaw Man follows Denji’s “normal” happy-ever-after, and how it is consequently ripped away from him by a heretical organization and an apocalyptic prophecy.

Devils gain more power the more they are feared. This fact, coupled with Chainsaw Man’s popularity, suppressed his true form. Sensing the end of the world, a group of villains conspired to bring the Chainsaw Devil out once again to stop a literal doomsday.

In chapter 171, Barem Bridge – the Church’s second-in-command – reveals that they exacted their nefarious plan to make the public fear Chainsaw Man again. Barem feeds Denji more sushi, and says he’ll see Nayuta once he promises to “save us.”

Unfortunately, the second requirement for bringing out the Chainsaw Devil is Denji’s unhappiness. So Nayuta’s severed head is served next on the sushi conveyor belt.

It’s subtly implied that the sushi Denji ate was made from Nayuta (reflecting how he also ate Makima), but that morbid theory is yet to be confirmed. We’ve seen the Control Devil come back from the dead before, so it’s unclear if Nayuta is truly dead.
