Warning: Spoilers ahead.

Chainsaw Man chapter 180 recap

Chapter 180 opens with the Aging Devil hitting Yoru with his own ‘Bang!’ attack, instantly causing her to fall into a deep sleep.

The next panels we see are a first-person view of Asa running down the same dark alleyway Denji sees in his dreams.

This isn’t the first time she’s dreamt of the alleyway. In the past, she’d have visions of the same side path filled with dead chickens before seeing darkness at the end.

Fans speculate that these dreams are a manifestation of Asa’s guilt for accidentally killing her Chicken Devil mascot in high school (similar to how Denji’s door symbolized his repressed memories) and that it portends a fowl path she’s about to walk.

It’s also worth noting that there were no chickens in this dream.

Asa regains consciousness, and she finds herself standing at the edge of a large lake. She spots an unconscious Denji nearby, who Yoru immediately tries to kill. But her powers don’t work.

Shortly after, they’re approached by a middle-aged man wearing nothing but a loincloth, who welcomes them into “a world the Aging Devil created.”

The man claimed to be an old Devil Hunter who accidentally entered a deal with the Aging Devil after worrying about his wrinkles. As a result, he’s been trapped in the same world for 82 years.

Moreover, the ex-hunter reveals that there are other humans, but that he was the youngest one there.

According to the man, hunger, thirst, and even death don’t affect its denizens. But that hasn’t stopped them from losing their minds.

When Asa asks him for a way out, the ex-hunter starts talking about another human who might’ve escaped a long time ago but cuts his story short. He then accuses Asa of being just another hallucination of “Ritsuko” before finding a tree to cling to and subsequently screeching like a broken animal.
