Chainsaw Man chapter 181 recap
The chapter follows Asa’s maddening foray into the Aging Devil’s domain.
Based on Chapter 180, we know that death and hunger are impossible here. But Asa’s terrifying discovery completely removes the forest’s idyllic facade.
Chapter 181 starts with Asa wandering through the forest, slowly losing her way. She gets the idea to turn the space around her into a weapon when Yoru tries the Gun Devil’s power on herself.
After some conversation, Yoru admits that, unlike their fight against the Eternity devil, her strength is “no match for Aging Devil’s” and punches a tree out of frustration.
They both hear a groan of pain and see a disfigured face made of bark, causing Asa to run away.
She eventually makes it back, tripping on Denji’s sleeping body. The ex-hunter welcomes her back, calling her “Sanae” and explains that staying in the demiplane for 1,000 years lets you turn into a tree.
Doing this lets you rot away and “become one with nature,” providing a means of death–and assumably–an escape into the real world.
Yoru blames Denji for their position and starts punching him, which wakes him up. He cries and regrets his past actions, accepting his fate in the grass. Yoru then kisses him.
