What is the Dandadan story about?
Dandadan stands out for its uniqueness in the shonen genre.
Momo believes in the existence of ghosts but dismisses aliens, while Ken, a firm believer in extraterrestrial beings, thinks the supernatural is nothing more than fiction. Their clashing perspectives lead them into an accidental adventure that proves both phenomena are very real.
From there, their worlds collide in a series of wild encounters with both supernatural forces and extraterrestrial beings.

Dandadan characters and monsters
Momo Ayase
Momo is a high school girl who believes in the existence of ghosts because she came from a family of psychics. However, she strongly denies the existence of aliens.
She is an energetic and somewhat brash character, unafraid to face supernatural threats head-on. Momo’s tenacity is rooted in her desire to uncover truths about her family, particularly her grandmother, Seiko Ayase, who has connections to the supernatural world.
Ken Takakura
Also known as Okarun, Ken is a socially awkward high schooler with a deep belief in aliens, convinced they exist but highly skeptical of the paranormal.
He becomes a close companion of Momo as they encounter both ghosts and aliens in their escapades. His nerdy, awkward nature provides much of the comedic relief in the story, but he’s also brave when it matters most.
Seiko Ayase
Seiko is Momo’s grandmother and a powerful psychic. She plays a pivotal role in protecting Momo and Ken from supernatural threats.
Wise and eccentric, Seiko is also known as Santa Dodoria and acts as a mentor to Momo, passing down her knowledge of spirits and the paranormal world.
Aira Shiratori
Aira is a high school girl who develops feelings for Ken after he saves her from danger.
Initially, she sees Momo as a rival but later joins the group to face supernatural threats. Aira’s presence adds complexity to the love triangle dynamic within the story.
Jin Enjoji
Jin is Ayase’s childhood friend who happens to have the ability to see spirits.
His charisma and charm make him a favorite amongst the other characters, but he hides a deeper, darker secret.
Turbo Granny
A terrifying entity that’s part of the spiritual world. Turbo Granny is a key antagonist early in the story, recognized for her grotesque appearance and surprising agility.
She becomes a recurring villain as Momo and Ken encounter more powerful entities.
Serpoians
A race of mechanical male only alien beings that become central to the plot.
The reason why Serpoians clash with the humans is because they’re looking for a way to naturally reproduce their species.
Flatwoods Monster
A human-like alien that closely resembles a sumo wrestler.
Despite its large size, boasts surprising agility and has the ability to do powerful stomps that stagger any nearby opponent.
Acrobatic Silky
Once a human, Acrobatic Silku is a Yokai with extraordinary agility and strength.
She has the ability to manipulate her hair and use it for binding her enemies and inanimate objects.
Dover Demon/Mr Mantis Shrimp
A cryptid-like alien, Dover Demon was hired to capture Ken for alien money and his supernatural powers.
Dover Demon becomes a prominent antagonist in later chapters as he battles several of our beloved characters.
Taro
Taro is a male human biology model whose role is primarily comedic relief, often getting caught up in the bizarre occurrences (or accidents) that plague Momo and Ken.
His lighthearted approach contrasts with the darker tones of the series.
Hana
A female human body biology model that was found by Taro.
