Updated on July 1, 11:30 a.m. (GMT+8): Added latest Demon Slayer series development.
Demon Slayer fans can rejoice! The rumors were true.
On July 1, 2024, ufotable confirmed the highly anticipated Demon Slayer Infinity Castle movie trilogy, which splits the series’ penultimate arc into a three-part theatrical event.
Speculation about a Demon Slayer Infinity Castle trilogy first gained traction on August 20, 2023, when a Weibo account, known for leaking anime news, hinted at a major announcement.
Season 4, featuring the Hashira Training arc, recently concluded its 8-episode run on July 1, 2024, setting the stage for the exciting events to come in the Infinity Castle movies.
Demon Slayer Infinity Castle movie trilogy confirmed
After the hour-long finale of season 4, ufotable released the first official poster for the Demon Slayer Infinity Castle movie trilogy. The poster shows Tanjiro Kamado falling towards the menacing Infinity Castle.
Below him, the seven Hashira stand firm, accompanied by their demon ally Tamayo. The caption on the poster reads, “The All-Out War Begins,” setting the stage for Demon Slayer Infinity Castle the Movie.
Within this arc, crucial confrontations between the primary protagonists and antagonists transpire. Bringing these intense clashes to the big screen can propel Demon Slayer to shatter box office records once again.
Despite being released in 2020 at the height of the COVID-19 pandemic, the Demon Slayer Mugen Train movie broke records and became the highest-grossing Japanese film of all time, with more than US$507 million in earnings.
In fact, it beat Spirited Away’s 19-year record after grossing US$223 million just over two months after its release. The film received high praise for its gorgeous visuals and top-tier animation, particularly in Upper Moon Three Akaza and Flame Hashira Kyojuro Rengoku’s fight scenes.
The Kimetsu no Yaiba Mugen Train movie only featured two significant clashes between the Demon Slayer Corp and Muzan Kibutsuji’s Twelve Demon Moons.
In the finale of season 4, Muzan Kibutsuji targets Kagaya Ubuyashiki, the leader of the Demon Slayers, resulting in a pivotal confrontation. Ubuyashiki’s sacrifice empowers the remaining Demon Slayers, especially the elite Hashira, for their final battle with Muzan.
In a desperate move, Muzan teleports almost all the demon hunters, including the Hashira, to his fortified base—the Infinity Castle.
The Infinity Castle arc, in comparison, will have way more confrontations between the strongest members of the Demon Slayer Corp and Muzan’s top-ranked demons. This also means there will be more over-the-top battles between the Hashira and the Upper Moons.
The Infinity Castle arc covers chapters 140 to 183 of the Demon Slayer manga.
