What is Code Geass?
Code Geass is a Japanese anime series that blends political intrigue, mecha combat, and supernatural elements.
Set in an alternate history where the Holy Britannian Empire has conquered Japan, the story follows Lelouch Lamperouge, an exiled Britannian prince residing in Japan (now known as Area 11).
Disillusioned with the empire’s brutality, Lelouch encounters a mysterious woman named C.C. who grants him the power of Geass, the ability to compel anyone to obey his absolute command.
Vowing to overthrow Britannia and create a world where his blind sister Nunnally can live happily, Lelouch assumes the masked persona of Zero and leads a rebellion against the empire.
With his strategic genius and the power of Geass, Lelouch ignites a war that challenges the very foundations of the Britannian social order.
The series explores themes of rebellion, justice, and the price of revolution, all against the backdrop of thrilling mecha battles.
Code Geass watch order with movies: In what order should you watch Code Geass?
Here’s the recommended Code Geass watch order, including the main series and OVAs.
The Akito the Exiled OVAs can be watched before or after Lelouch of the Rebellion R2, but it’s recommended to watch them before Re;surrection for a more complete viewing experience.
The recap specials (Black Rebellion and Zero Requiem) are optional and can be skipped if you prefer to go straight into the main story.
It is also important to note that three recap Code Geass movies (Initiation, Transgression, and Glorification) were released, summarizing the original series. However, these movies contain some changes to the story that create a divergence.
The latest addition to the Code Geass series, Code Geass: Rozé of the Recapture is a completely different story but takes place many years after the original story ends.
It can be viewed as a standalone, however watching it in order enhances the viewing experience with a lot of overworld context.
