Hunter x Hunter chapter 402 recap
In Hunter x Hunter chapter 402, titled “Letter,” the events continued within the context of the succession contest between the Kakin Princes. The chapter began with 3rd Prince Zhang Lei talking with Tenftory and learning that both 5th Prince Tubeppa and 14th Prince Woble were willing to renounce their claims to the throne in his favor.
Zhang Lei was surprised by this development, particularly by Tubeppa’s willingness to give up the throne, and reflected on the implications of this partial surrender. He rewarded Tenftory with another coin. He considered their power and realized that something significant might happen if certain conditions were met.
Meanwhile, in Room 1005, Tubeppa received word that Kurapika had entered into a truce with her. She agreed to an alliance on the condition that Woble and his mother, 8th Queen Oito, accompany him. Tubeppa was open to the idea, suggesting she wouldn’t mind living with Woble and his entourage.
Rihan, one of Tubeppa’s guards, became suspicious and deduced that Tubeppa might be colluding with Woble or, more precisely, with Kurapika. Amidst these developments, Tubeppa’s Guardian Spirit Beast suddenly appeared, and Rihan interpreted its manifestation as potentially significant.
Elsewhere, 9th Prince Halkenburg became a target for assassination by Balsamilco, who planned to use a deadly, denatured biological weapon to eliminate him.
This silent killer was designed to cause multiple organ failures while leaving no trace of the weapon during autopsy. Balsamilco resolved to use the weapon immediately, adding to the growing tension and danger within the contest.
In Room 1004, Tserriednich was training his Zetsu ability, quickly mastering it in less than ten seconds, which astonished his guard, Salkov. Salkov reflected on Tserriednich’s monstrous talent in learning Nen and feared that Tserriednich would use these abilities for selfish and dangerous purposes.
As they trained, Vantine updated Tserriednich on Melody’s situation, and the prince continued to plot how to stay ahead of 1st Prince Benjamin while also keeping an eye on Melody.
Melody, meanwhile, was in her prison cell interacting with Kacho. Kacho showed her a strange mark on 11th Prince Fugetsu’s body, raising concerns about an enemy Nen ability. Melody suspected that Fugetsu had been marked by a dangerous Nen ability that was progressively weakening her.
Kacho and Melody devised a plan to protect Fugetsu and uncover the enemy behind the mysterious attack. Melody advised Kacho to test Fugetsu’s Nen ability to confirm the nature of the trap.
As they hatched their plan, Kaiser assisted Melody and Kacho in getting Fugetsu access to Prince Luzurus’ quarters. Fugetsu delivered a letter from Kacho to each Prince, starting with Benjamin, and the interactions during these meetings provided insights into the Princes’ attitudes and plans.
Benjamin noticed Fugetsu’s weakened state, suspecting she wouldn’t survive much longer due to her deteriorating health.
The chapter concluded with Kaiser reflecting on their plan’s success and the various Princes’ reactions. He pondered over the contents of the letters and how each Prince might interpret them, especially in the context of the ongoing succession contest.
As Fugetsu prepared to visit more Princes, a sense of looming danger, shifting alliances, and strategic maneuvering continued to grow, heightening the tension in the deadly competition for the throne.
