This long-standing mystery has been a constant source of speculation and concern among the Jujutsu Kaisen fanbase.
After her fateful encounter with the powerful cursed spirit Mahito, Nobara seemed to have vanished without a trace, leaving her friends and fans wondering if they would ever see her again. We finally got our answer on August 25, 2024, with the release of Jujutsu Kaisen chapter 267.
As Gege Akutami’s hit manga series reaches its climax, with Ryomen Sukuna, the most powerful sorcerer in history, battling Yuji Itadori for the fate of the world, the sorcerer once thought to be dead has returned—and is now poised to play a crucial role in saving it.
Who is Nobara Kugisaki in Jujutsu Kaisen?
Nobara Kugisaki is a first-year student at Tokyo Jujutsu High studying under Satoru Gojo alongside Yuji and Megumi Fushiguro.
Nobara is a confident and bold individual with an unwavering determination to stay true to herself. Known for her brash and abrasive demeanor, she takes pride in being strong and attractive and often exudes arrogance when meeting new people.
However, beneath this tough exterior, Nobara is deeply caring and dutiful and fiercely values her friendships, particularly with Yuji and Megumi.
Growing up in a small village, Nobara always felt out of place and longed to escape to the city. Her admiration for outsiders like Saori influenced her desire to leave her hometown. Nobara eventually attended Jujutsu High, where she became a grade 3 sorcerer.
Is Nobara dead?
Nobara’s pride was deeply wounded after a close call during the Shibuya Incident, but she remained determined to continue fighting.
However, her overconfidence ultimately became her undoing when Mahito fatally struck her. In her final moments, Nobara reflected on her life, found peace, and smiled at Yuji as she accepted her fate.
As it turns out, since the Shibuya Incident arc, which took place from chapters 79 to 136 of the manga and adapted in season 2 of the anime, Nobara had just been in a deep state of recovery in Jujutsu High.
After Mahito struck Nobara, Arata Nitta quickly administered medical aid using his cursed technique. However, at the time, Arata couldn’t confirm to Yuji whether Nobara would survive, and Gege Akutami left her fate unclear.
For the next four arcs—Itadori’s Extermination, Perfect Preparation, Culling Game, and Shinjuku Showdown—spanning chapters 137 to 266, Jujutsu Kaisen fans were left thinking she was gone for good.
In chapter 267, Nobara finally wakes up and immediately jumps into action to help Yuji in his fight against Sukuna. By using Yuji’s finger, and since Sukuna still has a connection to Yuji, having shared the same body for a long period of time, Nobara used her Straw Doll cursed technique to incapacitate Sukuna, giving Yuji the upper hand in their climactic battle.
At the time of writing, Jujutsu Kaisen is still ongoing, with the final chapter, chapter 271, set to release on September 30, 2024. However, the answer is clear: Nobara is alive and ready for action.
