Who is Suguru Geto?
Suguru Geto’s story in Jujutsu Kaisen is one of tragedy and betrayal. A righteous sorcerer turns into a vengeful antagonist. Initially, Geto firmly believed that sorcerers existed to protect humanity from curses, but his faith in this mission was shattered.
One of the most defining moments in his transformation was the death of Riko Amanai. Instead of being mourned or condemned, the people responsible for her death were celebrated, igniting Geto’s growing contempt for non-sorcerers.
This event and philosophical discussions with Yuki Tsukumo pushed him to believe that the world should only consist of sorcerers. In his view, eliminating non-sorcerers was the only way to eradicate curses and restore balance.
His beliefs solidified when he encountered two young girls suffering at the hands of non-sorcerers due to their cursed abilities. Unable to tolerate such injustice, Geto killed the entire village, saved the girls, and discarded his Jujutsu High pin, marking his departure from the school and official transformation into a curse user.
From then on, he sought to create a world without non-sorcerers, gathering loyal followers who admired him as their leader.
Though ruthless, Geto cared deeply for his comrades and saw them as family, but his hatred for non-sorcerers remained strong, and he viewed them as mere tools in his grand plan.
Is Suguru Geto alive in Jujutsu Kaisen?
Suguru Geto’s downfall appeared final after his fierce battle with Yuta Okkotsu in Jujutsu Kaisen 0. Severely injured and on the brink of death, Geto sought refuge in an alley where his former best friend, Satoru Gojo, confronted him.
In their last encounter, the tension between their once-strong bond and their opposing ideals came to a head. Geto, admitting he couldn’t find peace in the world as it was, implied that Gojo should have cursed him long ago instead of placing faith in their friendship.
In an emotionally charged moment, Gojo made the heartbreaking decision to kill his best friend, seemingly bringing Geto’s life to a tragic end.
Yet, that wasn’t the end of Suguru Geto’s story. Even in death, his influence lingered. The sinister sorcerer Kenjaku, known for possessing bodies to further his twisted schemes, took control of Geto’s body. Kenjaku hijacked Geto’s powerful ability to manipulate cursed spirits using his cursed technique, turning Geto’s corpse into a puppet for his nefarious plans.
Under Kenjaku’s control, Geto’s body became central to the catastrophic events that unfolded in Jujutsu Kaisen, including the release of Ryomen Sukuna and the deadly Culling Game. This chaotic conflict plunged the world into chaos.
While Kenjaku’s defeat at the hands of Yuta Okkotsu during the Shinjuku Showdown seemed to signal the end of Geto’s physical form, Jujutsu Kaisen Chapter 270 reignited the mystery.
A figure similar to Geto appeared alongside Fumihiko Takaba, a sorcerer whose bizarre cursed technique turns anything he finds humorous into reality.
Whether this is truly Geto, another manifestation of Kenjaku’s plans, or a product of Fumihiko’s power, his unexplained cameo remains a mystery. It will be clarified further with the release of the final chapter of Jujutsu Kaisen, chapter 271, on September 29, 2024.
