Kaiju no 8 chapter 117 is set to ramp up the action as Soshiro Hoshina and Gen Narumi continue their intense battle against Kaiju no 9.
In the previous chapter, the two strongest fighters showed just how powerful they were, but even their combined strength couldn’t take down the terrifying monster.
Meanwhile, Kafka Hibino, after being gravely injured, was left in a mysterious dream-like state where a strange voice called out to him.
Could this be when we learn more about Kaiju no 8’s origins?
Kaiju no 8 chapter 116 recap
Chapter 116 began with a flashback set four years prior, where Third Division vice-captain Soshiro Hoshina caught the attention of First Division commander Gen Narumi during training.
Gen initially expressed his dislike for Soshiro when he first joined the Defense Force, as Soshiro reminded him of his older brother, Soichiro, the Sixth Division captain. Despite this resentment, Gen eventually reached out to recruit Soshiro. However, Soshiro declined the offer.
Over time, Soshiro broke all of Gen’s close-quarters combat records, further frustrating the First Division commander.
In the present, Gen and Soshiro fought the immensely powerful Kaiju No. 9, who had just delivered a near-fatal blow to Hibino.
Their simultaneous presence on the battlefield was against Defense Force protocol—not due to personal dislike, but because a commander at full strength has power comparable to a mega-monster. This meant any soldier nearby risked being killed due to the sheer force of their attacks.
Gen and Soshiro managed to land several hits on Kaiju No. 9. Just as they coordinated a simultaneous strike, the monster skillfully parried their attacks and unleashed a massive explosion.
Meanwhile, Hibino, severely injured, drifted into a dream-like state, sinking deeper into a vast body of water. He could still hear the sounds of battle, and a mysterious voice reached out to him, asking if he wished to return.
When asked if he still desired to fight, Hibino replied that he didn’t care what happened to him, only that he wanted to fight alongside Mina Ashiro and his friends.
The chapter ended with the sudden appearance of a samurai warrior wielding a great spear. The warrior beckoned Hibino, offering to strengthen their connection, hinting at a new source of power or guidance.
