Kaiju no 8 episode 5 Joining Up recap
The grueling Defense Force recruitment exam has concluded in episode 5, titled Joining Up. While the initial group of 27 aspiring Kaiju fighters has officially graduated as officers, Kafka Hibino’s journey, marked by his barely qualifying as a cadet, has just begun.
He will undergo a reevaluation in three months to prove his potential for officer status. Despite failing the main exam, Kafka received a lifeline from Soshiro Hoshina, vice-captain of the Third Division.
Hoshina offered him a spot in his platoon. However, this wasn’t purely out of goodwill. Hoshina suspected Kafka’s involvement in the strange events during the exam’s final stages and wanted to keep a closer eye on him.
Faced with the reality of falling behind his fellow recruits, Kafka redoubled his efforts to earn his promotion. He confided in Kikoru Shinomiya, the class’s top scorer, about his situation.
Grateful for his intervention, which saved her life, Shinomiya agreed to keep his identity as Kaiju no. 8 a secret. However, she warned him that revealing this truth to anyone could result in his capture and experimentation by the Defense Force.
The episode concluded with a sudden twist. A Kaiju attack alarm blared, thrusting the newly minted recruits, including Kafka, into their first mission as members of the Defense Force. What will happen next?
