The calm after the storm is short-lived for the Japan Anti-Kaiju Defense Force (JAKDF).
As the Third Division basks in the success of their recent mission, a new threat looms large in Kaiju no 8 episode 9.
With little time to rest, Kafka Hibino and his comrades will be pushed to their limits again.
Here’s everything you need to know about what’s coming next, including the Kaiju no 8 episode 9 release date, when exactly it airs, and where you can watch it.
Kaiju no 8 episode 8 recap
Picking up right where the previous episode left off, episode 8, titled “Welcome to the Defense Force,” saw Third Division vice-captain Soshiro Hoshina attempt to neutralize Hibino, who remained in his Kaiju no 8 form after failing to eliminate Kaiju no 9.
With 92 percent of his combat power released, Hoshina unleashed a barrage of attacks against Hibino — to the point that Kaiju no 8’s core was exposed.
Hoshina aimed for a decisive blow, severing Kaiju no 8’s left leg with a special move. However, anticipating the attack, Hibino countered with a powerful strike, allowing him to escape the confrontation.
Following the mission, Ryo Ikagura, one of the Third Division’s platoon leaders, revealed to Captain Mina Ashiro and Hoshina that Kaiju no 9 possessed the ability to transform into a human.
The episode then showed Kaiju no 9 fleeing the neutralization zone, assuming another human form by killing a civilian it encountered on the road.
After a two-week hospital stay, Reno Ichikawa and Iharu Furuhashi were finally discharged. This allowed the Third Division to celebrate their successful first mission with a long-awaited party. The celebration also marked Hibino’s promotion from cadet to an official officer within the JAKDF.
The episode ended with a cliffhanger, with a group of never-before-seen Kaiju about to descend from the sky.
Who is Haruichi Izumo?
Haruichi is a member of the Third Division, and a fellow recruit alongside Kafka Hibino, Reno Ichikawa, Iharu Furuhashi, and his rival, Aoi Kaguragi.
It’s revealed that Haruichi is the heir to Izumo Tech, the leading manufacturer of Anti-Kaiju weapons in Japan.
This prestigious company supplies the Japan Anti-Kaiju Defense Force (JAKDF) with a significant portion of its technological arsenal, including weapons, armor, and essential tools used to combat the Kaiju threat.
The company is run by Haruchi’s father, who has yet to be introduced in the manga and anime.
Kaiju no 8 episode 8 ending explained — who was that mysterious Kaiju flying in the sky?
The monster resembles Hibino and Kaiju no 9, another humanoid kaiju. This powerful villain launches the next arc of the anime, covering chapters 24 to 32 of the manga.
According to the official Kaiju no 8 X account (formerly Twitter), this Kaiju is voiced by Kenta Miyake, a veteran Japanese voice actor known for roles such as All Might in My Hero Academia, Mike Zacharias in Attack on Titan, and Takenori Akagi in The First Slam Dunk movie.
