Hunter x Hunter chapter 407 brings Chrollo Lucilfer and the Phantom Troupe closer to a high-stakes confrontation as they face mounting threats on the Black Whale ship.
With Chrollo pursuing Kakin’s sacred treasures to gain an edge over Hisoka, he may be walking into a deadly trap.
If Hisoka is already a step ahead, the Troupe’s future could be in jeopardy. Chrollo’s potential fall would leave the Troupe leaderless, forcing them to confront new challenges and shifting loyalties.
This chapter could mark a pivotal turning point for the series, with one of its strongest factions facing an uncertain future.
Hunter x Hunter chapter 406 recap
Nobunaga, Phinks, and Feitan continued their journey through a dark corridor, navigating tight spaces between buildings following the events of chapter 405. Phinks commented on the narrow and twisted passage, while Nobunaga reminded him to be cautious with his sword, suggesting it might attract unnecessary attention from the guards.
The group discussed the situation with the level two soldiers, noting that most of them were young and inexperienced, which could lead to accidental gunfire. They arrived at a door, and Nobunaga explained that moving forward would become more challenging. As they reached the Black Whale’s outermost area, Tajao described the structure, noting that climbing the stairs would lead to the top of level two.
Phinks reflected on the unpleasant, familiar smell in the area, which Tajao attributed to the waste of over 200,000 people being dumped there. The main sewage treatment is located between levels four and five.
Their conversation shifted to the control of waste disposal in this section, which Tajao explained was managed by the Char and Shiu families. Nobunaga remarked that they outsourced much of the labor and passed on oversight to subordinates, allowing the family in control to maintain influence without micromanaging every detail.
Tajao hinted that this setup could be exploited, as waste management companies might disguise themselves to operate with deadly intent, luring unsuspecting individuals into isolated rooms for execution.
Nobunaga decided to head back to gather more information on those responsible. He cautioned Phinks and Feitan about a specific counter-attack ability they might encounter at the enemy hideout.
Nobunaga warned them about a guard with a special invincibility ability who kicked intruders out of the area using a Nen puppet, acting like a security system. Phinks expressed frustration, feeling this information would have been useful earlier, but Feitan reassured him they could handle any attackers.
The scene shifted to Hinrigh Biganduffno and Zakuro, navigating through a dense crowd of mourners gathered for Prince Halkenburg’s funeral. Zakuro mentioned that Lynch had returned to their office to attend to unfinished business. They discussed the High-Level assassins, and Hinrigh advised Zakuro to apprehend them if they reappeared.
Suddenly, they discovered Lynch’s lifeless body, her neck skillfully broken—an act done by a professional assassin. Hinrigh concluded that Lynch likely fell victim to a High-Level assassin, and, carrying her body, he instructed Zakuro to assist him.
Hinrigh and Zakuro discussed Lynch’s last moments. Zakuro recalled Lynch’s demeanor had been unusually distant and calm, starkly contrasting her typical personality. Hinrigh theorized that Lynch may not have been herself, speculating that someone could have impersonated her to deceive Zakuro.
Hinrigh suggested it might have been Hisoka, who could have used his abilities to manipulate Lynch. Zakuro struggled to comprehend this possibility but realized Hisoka might have intended for Lynch’s death to send a message, hoping the mafia would inform Hisoka’s enemies of his presence.
Meanwhile, Chrollo, the leader of the Phantom Troupe, was seen in the crowd, reflecting on his pursuit of three sacred treasures connected to the Kakin Royal Family. He carried a conjured phone, attempting to track someone using the “Love Dialer” ability, which let him search for a person based on specific criteria.
Chrollo failed to find his target, reminding him of previous failed attempts in Heavens Arena. He considered whether adjusting his search parameters or changing locations could yield better results, but he remained cautious about increasing his risk of exposure.
Chrollo was intrigued by the connection between the sacred treasures and the Succession War. He believed the treasures were spiritual focal points, crucial for sustaining Kakin’s prosperity and controlling Nen’s abilities within the Succession Contest. He decided that the treasures must be stored at the heart of the ship, on level one, guarded as fiercely as the king.
The chance to steal such powerful artifacts thrilled Chrollo, as they could give him the strength he needs to finally defeat Hisoka by enhancing his Skill Hunter ability.
As Chrollo contemplated his goals, he acknowledged the necessity of patience and strategy. He recognized that he might encounter Hisoka before being fully prepared but dismissed it as a manageable risk. Chrollo’s confidence in his plans for the Phantom Troupe remained steadfast, even as he accepted that the “spider” would continue its legacy regardless of his fate.
His inner monologue was interrupted by the sad procession of Prince Halkenburg’s funeral, marked by the ringing of phones among the crowd. Chrollo’s call to his target failed again because of network restrictions, implying the person he sought was on a higher level.
The chapter concluded with the Phantom Troupe aiming upward, setting their sights on their objective in the higher echelons of the Black Whale. The funeral procession continued solemnly, marking the end of the chapter.
