The One Piece anime has achieved another remarkable milestone. The creation of Eiichiro Oda and Avex Pictures Inc. has officially broken the Guinness World Record for the most DVDs released of a serial anime TV program.

This historic achievement was announced during the One Piece Day 2024 event held in Chiba, Japan.

The One Piece anime’s 300th DVD, featuring episodes 1,086 to 1,088 of the Egghead Arc, marked the record-breaking release. Since its debut on DVD on February 21, 2001, One Piece has consistently captivated audiences, leading to a staggering 300 DVD releases in 23 years.

One Piece DVDs are physical discs containing episodes of the popular anime series, offering fans the opportunity to own and enjoy their favorite adventures of Luffy and his Straw Hat Pirates.

What is the One Piece?

Previously, One Piece held the record for the most copies published for the same comic book series by a single author, a title it achieved in 2014 and again in 2023 with an astounding 500 million copies sold.

One Piece is a globally renowned manga and anime series created by Eiichiro Oda. The story revolves around Monkey D. Luffy, a young, rubbery man who dreams of becoming the King of the Pirates.

Inspired by his childhood idol, the legendary pirate Red-Haired Shanks, Luffy sets sail with his crew, the Straw Hat Pirates, to find the ultimate treasure, the One Piece.

Their journey takes them across the Grand Line, a perilous ocean filled with extraordinary islands, dangerous creatures, and rival pirates.

One Piece began its journey in July 1997 when the manga was first serialized in Shueisha’s Weekly Shonen Jump magazine. Building on the manga’s success, the anime adaptation premiered on October 20, 1999.

Both the manga and anime continues to be released weekly.

Beyond its core, the One Piece franchise has expanded into a vast multimedia empire. One Piece has inspired countless merchandise, from action figures and clothing to home goods and collectibles.

The franchise’s popularity has also extended to theme parks, live stage performances, and even a live-action television series. This adaptation, brought to life by Netflix, aims to introduce the world of One Piece to a wider audience while staying true to the spirit of the original story.

The One Piece live-action series premiered on Netflix on August 31, 2023. The show quickly gained millions of viewers in its first week and was soon renewed for a second season by Netflix and Tomorrow Studios. The main cast, including Inaki Godoy as Luffy, Emily Rudd as Nami, Jacob Romero Gibson as Usopp, Taz Skylar as Sanji, and Mackenyu as Zoro, reprises their roles.
