During One Piece Day 2023, held at Tokyo Big Sight in Japan in July 2023, event attendees had the chance to see the authentic One Piece live action costumes and props used in Netflix’s adaptation of Eiichiro Oda’s beloved anime and manga series.
No longer limited to the confines of television cameras, this unique exhibit brought fans closer to the magic of the live action series, providing an up-close and personal look at the intricate details of the cast’s wardrobe.
Here’s a closer look at the official One Piece live action costumes used in the Netflix adaptation
Among the showcased One Piece live action costumes, one that stood out was Luffy’s costume, which notably featured closed shoes instead of his traditional straw sandals.
This ensemble was first seen on Luffy actor Inaki Godoy when the key visual for the series was revealed.
The exhibit also included two other Luffy costumes, one depicting him in a vibrant floral Hawaiian-print polo and the other in a simple “Anchor” t-shirt from the character’s days as a kid.
Costumes for Shanks, played by Peter Gadiot, and Captain Morgan, played by Langley Kirkwood, can also be seen in full detail at the exhibit.
Additionally, a variety of props were also on display, such as the Gomu Gomu no Mi Devil Fruit, the magical fruit that granted Luffy his rubbery powers, a map showcasing the Red Line and the Grand Line within the One Piece world, as well as paper bills and coins of Berries, the currency used in this fictional universe.
One Piece live action series premiered on Netflix on August 31, 2023, an adaptation overseen by Eiichiro Oda himself, alongside showrunner Steven Maeda and producer Matt Owens.
Starring Inaki Godoy as Luffy, Emily Rudd as Nami, Taz Skylar as Sanji, Jacob Romero Gibson as Usopp, and Mackenyu Arata as Zoro, the series promises to bring to a whole new audience the adventures of Monkey D. Luffy and his diverse crew of pirates in search of the One Piece, the legendary treasure of the Pirate King, Gol D. Roger.
