One Piece live action ending explained for season 1
In the One Piece live action series, specifically in the second half of episode 8 titled “Worst in the East,” we witnessed a climactic moment where Monkey D. Luffy (Inaki Godoy), defeated the sawshark fish-man Arlong (McKinley Belcher).
Luffy employed his powerful Gum Gum Battle Axe technique to achieve this victory. This move involves stretching one leg high and delivering a devastating high-gravity stomp to his opponents or, in this case, structures.
After beating Arlong, the Marines, led by Vice Admiral Garp (Vincent Regan), come to Arlong Park to arrest Monkey D. Luffy. They have an intense battle, and Garp tells Luffy he’s not ready for an adventure in the Grand Line yet.
Luffy couldn’t beat Garp, but when Garp sees and hears Luffy’s laughter, reminiscent of the legendary pirate Gold Roger (Michael Dorman), he lets Luffy go, saying he was just testing him all along.
The day after, Nami (Emily Rudd) goes to the grave of her mother, Belle-mere. There, she talks with Nojiko (Chioma Umeala), who had helped her tend to the wounds on her tattooed arm.
Koby (Morgan Davies) meets with Luffy to present him with his own pirate bounty poster, set by Marine Captain Nezumi (Rory Acton-Burnell). Luffy’s poster displays a staggering bounty of 30,000,000 Berries, the highest in East Blue. After this encounter, Koby and Luffy go their separate ways, pledging to become a good pirate and Marine, respectively.
Luffy goes back to the Going Merry ship to proudly display his bounty poster to his crewmates. In the following scenes, the same poster is seen in newspapers being read by Foosha Village bartender Makino (Kathleen Stephens) and Usopp’s (Jacob Romero) close friend Kaya (Celeste Loots).
Copies of the bounty posters were also spotted in the hands of Baratie chef Zeff (Craig Fairbrass), the clown pirate Buggy (Jeff Ward), the captain of the Alvida pirates, Alvida (Ilia Isorelys Paulino), Garp, a Warlord of the Sea, Dracule Mihawk (Steven Ward), and Luffy’s childhood idol, Shanks (Peter Gadiot).
Meanwhile, the new Marine recruits, Koby and Helmeppo, sign up for training under Garp to become stronger.
Mihawk pays a visit to Shanks and the Red Hair Pirates to share Luffy’s bounty poster, leading to a friendly celebration.
Luffy brings three tangerine trees from Cocoyasi Village aboard the Going Merry as a souvenir from Nami’s hometown.
To celebrate, Nami, Usopp, Sanji (Taz Skylar), and Zoro (Mackenyu Arata) surprise Luffy with a large print of their crew’s emblem on the Going Merry’s sail.
The original design was drawn by Luffy, with a few improvements by Usopp.
To commemorate this moment, all five of them engage in a cast-off ceremony. They each share their dreams and aspirations and then place their right leg on top of a barrel.
Sanji aims to find the All Blue, Luffy strives to become the King of the Pirates, Nami wants to create a world map, Zoro seeks to become the greatest swordsman, and Usopp’s goal is to become a brave warrior of the sea.
Meanwhile, in another location, a mysterious individual, seen smoking a cigar, grabs hold of Luffy’s bounty poster and starts to set it ablaze using their roll of tobacco.
While Netflix never showed their face, with their gray hair and cigarettes, it’s highly likely that this character is Smoker, a Marine vice admiral.
