The first season of the One Piece live action adaptation has achieved remarkable success, claiming the top spot on Netflix charts across multiple countries since its November release.
One Piece has outperformed other anime adaptations on the streaming platform, surpassing the ratings of titles such as Death Note and Cowboy Bebop on Rotten Tomatoes.
Despite the success thus far, creator and mangaka Eiichiro Oda harbors aspirations for the series to receive prestigious awards.
Eiichiro Oda reveals ambition for One Piece Live action to win awards in Jump Festa 2023 message
During Jump Festa 2023, Eiichiro Oda conveyed his ambitions for the One Piece live action adaptation through a brief message, which was delivered by Mayumi Tanaka, the voice actor for Monkey D. Luffy.
“Can you imagine seeing a Japanese manga adaptation taking home an Emmy? Or even an Academy Award? If I can be completely honest, that’s my dream,” Oda said.
He expressed confidence in the global production teams dedicated to One Piece, alongside the remarkable Straw Hat crew cast, and hinted at their commitment to ensuring that these Hollywood stars shine brightly in the upcoming second season.
Notably, Iñaki Godoy, who portrays Luffy, and Jacob Romero, the actor for Usopp, were present in Jump Festa 2023 on December 17 in Chiba, Japan. During the event, they interacted with the voice actors from the One Piece anime.
Winning an Emmy or an Academy Award signifies a great achievement in the television and film industries, respectively.
The Emmy Awards recognize excellence in the television industry, honoring outstanding performances, productions, and contributions across various categories.
On the other hand, the Academy Awards, also known as the Oscars, celebrate excellence in the broader film industry, recognizing outstanding achievements in categories such as acting, directing, writing, and technical aspects of filmmaking.
Netflix’s One Piece is a live action adaptation based on Eiichiro Oda’s renowned anime and manga series. The cast features Inaki, Jacob, Emily Rudd as Nami, Mackenyu Arata as Zoro, and Taz Skylar as Sanji. The adaptation centers on the East Blue Saga, the initial arc in the Sea of Survival: Super Rookies Saga.
Currently, production is in progress for the second season, set to premiere soon on Netflix.
