Eiichiro Oda’s iconic One Piece anime is set to undergo a remake, announced at Jump Festa 2023 in Chiba, Japan.
The new One Piece remake will feature a collaboration with the renowned Wit Studio, promising a fresh perspective on the beloved series.
The remake will focus on the East Blue Saga. This saga covers the first seven story arcs, ranging from Romance Dawn to Warship Island, equivalent to the first season of the anime (episodes 1 to 61) and the first 100 chapters of the manga.
Toei Animation and Wit Studio team up to work on the One Piece remake
The key visual for the One Piece remake shows a young Monkey D. Luffy on the edge of a cliff, set against the backdrop of Foosha Village, his hometown and the starting point of the story of One Piece.
Wit Studio is set to produce the new One Piece series in collaboration with Shueisha, Fuji Television, Netflix, and Toei Animation — the latter being the studio currently handling the original anime series.
Wit Studio is widely recognized for its outstanding work on anime series like Attack on Titan (Shingeki no Kyojin) and Spy x Family. Notably, they have previously partnered with Netflix for the anime movie Bubble.
The studio’s reputation in the anime industry is built on its commitment to high-quality animation, involvement in the adaptation of popular manga, and a diverse portfolio of successful projects.
Although the release date for the remake has not been officially confirmed, fans worldwide can look forward to catching the upcoming series on the streaming platform Netflix.
“(We aim) to provide viewers with a fresh yet familiar experience, utilizing cutting-edge visual technology to reimagine Luffy’s adventures through the beloved East Blue Saga,” Netflix said in an official statement.
