ReZero season 3 episode 1 premieres this Fall 2024, picking up where the beloved isekai series left off in season 2.
Fans have eagerly awaited the continuation of Subaru Natsuki and Emilia’s story since the conclusion of the previous season in 2021.
The excitement surrounding ReZero season 3 reached a fever pitch when it was officially announced during Anime Japan on March 24, 2024.
The accompanying teaser poster hinted at the storyline, showcasing characters from the series’ sixth arc, The Corridor of Memories.
What is ReZero?
ReZero: Starting Life in Another World is a popular Japanese light novel series written by Tappei Nagatsuki and illustrated by Shinichirou Otsuka.
The original light novel series began serialization in 2012 on a web novel platform. Its popularity led to a physical publication in 2014 and the creation of a manga adaptation later that same year.
The popularity of the light novel and manga led to an anime adaptation. The first season aired in 2016, followed by a second season in 2020 and a third season in 2024.
The story revolves around Subaru Natsuki, an ordinary Japanese teenager who is suddenly transported to another world after a shopping trip. In this new world, he discovers that he has a unique ability: “Return by Death.”
Whenever he dies, he is resurrected at a previous save point, allowing him to try different approaches to overcome challenges. However, this ability comes with a heavy emotional toll as he experiences repeated deaths and failures.
As Subaru navigates this unfamiliar world, he encounters a half-elf named Emilia and vows to protect her. Together, they face numerous dangers and uncover the mysteries surrounding the world they now inhabit.
ReZero season 2 recap
ReZero season 2 starts with Subaru mourning over the loss of Rem. He returns to Roswaal Manor with Emilia and Otto Suwen, only to find it abandoned. A new maid, Frederica Baumann, guides them to the mysterious Sanctuary.
At the Sanctuary, Subaru, Emilia, and Otto encounter a forgotten village in the heart of the Lost Forest of Kremaldy. They discover half of the missing Arlam Village residents, including Ram and the injured Roswaal.
Roswaal tasks Subaru and Emilia with completing the Trials of the Sanctuary to free the demi-humans from a barrier. The trials are overseen by the powerful Echidna, the Witch of Greed.
Through their successful completion of the trials, Subaru and Emilia manage to break the Sanctuary’s barrier. They also defeat the Great Rabbit and save both the manor and the Sanctuary.
The season concludes with Subaru becoming Emilia’s knight and the two celebrating their victory with a dance.
