ReZero – Starting Life in Another World returns with a thrilling start to its third season, leaving fans eager for ReZero season 3 episode 2.
The premiere episode ended with a shocking cliffhanger, as Subaru met a tragic fate after encountering Sirius, a Sin Archbishop of the Witch Cult representing Wrath, in the City of Pristella.
Before diving into what awaits next for our immortal protagonist, let’s revisit the key events of the season’s special first episode, “Theatrical Malice.”
ReZero season 3 episode 1 recap
ReZero season 3’s first episode, a 90-minute special, picks up approximately a year after the events of season 2. We find Subaru doing strength training at Roswaal Manor.
Emilia summons him to meet Joshua Juukulius at Anastasia Hoshin’s request.
Anastasia invites Emilia to Pristella, a Watergate City, claiming to have discovered a mana crystal that could summon a Great Spirit. Roswaal sends Garfiel, Otto, Emilia, Subaru, and Beatrice to Pristella.
Upon arrival, the group checks into The Water Raiment, a traditional ryokan. Anastasia provides more details about the mana crystal’s location and arranges a boat ride to meet the Songstress Fanatic. Due to seasickness, Subaru and Beatrice opt for a land journey.
While exploring the city center, they encounter Liliana, the Songstress, who guides them to the Fanatic’s location, Mr. Kiritaka. Unfortunately, their initial negotiations for the mana crystal failed, leading to a scheduled meeting the next day.
Back at the ryokan, they reunite with Lachins, Reinhard, Felt, Ferris, Ms. Crusch, and Mr. Wilhelm. Anastasia reveals that she summoned Felt’s party to discuss the Archbishop of Gluttony.
Everyone spends the day relaxing at the ryokan, except for Garfiel. The next day, they meet Heinkel, the Deputy Commander of the Royal Guard, and Princess Priscilla.
Later, Subaru, Emilia, and Beatrice witness Liliana performing with Priscilla. While buying snacks, Subaru encounters Lachin, but their interaction is interrupted by the arrival of the Archbishop of Wrath, Sirius Romanee Conti.
From atop a building, Sirius addresses the crowd, including Subaru and Lachin, demanding confirmation of her love. She then reveals a hostage, a young boy named Lusbell. Under Sirius’ spell, everyone cheers for the boy, and she tragically drops him to his death.
As a result of the tragic event, everyone, including Subaru, dies. Subaru then finds himself back at the point where Liliana asks him to buy snacks.
