Sakamoto Days episode 1 recap
The episode began with Shin, a psychic, locating Taro Sakamoto, a legendary hitman who had retired to start a family.
At Taro’s convenience store, another angry patron nearly struck a regular customer. Taro intervened immediately, defusing the situation without escalation. Despite his calm exterior, his mind instinctively assessed various ways to neutralize the threat, a remnant of his hitman instincts.
Introducing himself to Taro, Shin revealed his admiration for Taro’s legendary reputation. However, Taro’s first reaction was one of caution, as he instinctively considered striking Shin.
Shin explained that he had once worked under Taro during his hitman days and had devised a serious proposition.Hoping to recruit Taro back into the world of assassins, Shin tried to appeal to him.
Taro, however, had no interest in returning to his former life. Instead, he focused on his responsibilities to his family and his community, taking on small tasks and running his shop. Unconvinced, Shin suspected Taro was merely hiding his true nature.
It was soon revealed that Shin’s mission was more than a simple plea. Under orders from his boss, Shin was tasked with killing Taro if he refused to return to the hitman profession. The boss insisted that death was the only way for a hitman to leave the underworld.
Faced with this ultimatum, Shin resolved to carry out the order himself. However, his attempt to assassinate Taro failed spectacularly, as Taro’s unparalleled skills easily overpowered him. Knocked unconscious, Shin was left at Taro’s mercy.
When Shin awoke, he found himself in the Sakamoto household. Taro’s wife, Aoi, and daughter, Hana, had taken care of him, showing him kindness and hospitality. Experiencing the warmth of Taro’s family life, Shin began to understand why Taro had chosen to leave his violent past behind.
Determined to protect Taro, Shin returned to his boss and begged for his former mentor to be left alone. Offering his own life as a trade, Shin pleaded for the organization to forget about Taro. Upon learning of Shin’s predicament, Taro decided to act.
Unlocking the armory hidden in his shop, he armed himself and set out to dismantle the organization that threatened him.
After taking down the gang, Taro extended an olive branch to Shin, offering him a job at the store. The episode ended with Shin using his psychic abilities to assist customers, signaling the start of a new chapter in his life.
