Tower of God season 2 review

Tower of God lost its season one charm for a more modernized look in season two

One of the most striking changes between the first and second seasons of the Tower of God anime series lies in their visual styles.

Season one adopted a distinctive aesthetic that gave a hand drawn anime look, with bold lines and flat colors. In contrast, season two embraced a more contemporary anime style that we all know today, using smoother lines, richer color palettes, and a greater emphasis on shading and depth.

Though some may miss the series original hand drawn look, the modernized visuals significantly improved Tower of God’s action scenes, especially when Shinsu (this anime’s equivalent to magic) was involved.

Tower of God season 2 expands upon its predecessor in both scale and scope.

With a generous episode count of 26, it doubles the narrative coverage when compared to season one. This expansion allowed for the inclusion of several story arcs, including the Prince of Zahard and the Workshop Battle, offering a more complete viewing experience.

The anime continues to stay true to the story told in the original source material, never exploring more than what has already been told.

Despite the increased episode count, season two maintains a notably fast-paced narrative. While this may appeal to those seeking rapid-fire action and plot progression, the accelerated pacing of season two occasionally overshadowed the depth of character and plot development.

Bam, Khun, and Rachel continue to shine brightest amongst a sea of new faces

The introduction of numerous new characters in season two, while exciting, also presented a challenge in terms of character development. Despite the potential this expansion could bring, the limited screen time allocated to newer characters may leave viewers feeling somewhat disconnected from their personal stories.

The primary focus of the anime remained on the established trio of Bam, Khun, and Rachel. While this core narrative is central to the series, the supporting cast often felt relegated to the sidelines, limiting their opportunities to shine and connect with the audience.

It’s understandable considering the fast pacing of the anime, but at the same time, it may be hard to think of some characters other than simple sidepieces to progress the story.

Devoted fans of the original trio however will be delighted to know that season two continues to deliver on Bam, Khun, and Rachel’s character developments.

The season offers exciting clues that foreshadow significant growth for each of them, not to mention the buildup when the three eventually see each other again.
