Food featured in anime movies and series has always looked so scrumptious and delectable.
From piping hot bowls of rice to glistening cuts of deep-fried pork, many fans often wonder if these visuals live up to their portrayal in high-quality animation.
Finally putting an end to this culinary mystery, authors Laurie Ulster and Victoria Rosenthal present “The Gangster’s Guide to Housekeeping.”
Based on the popular manga of Keisuke Oono, the book takes inspiration from the protagonist, Tatsu, in “The Way of the Househusband” franchise, presenting a collection of delicious recipes straight from his kitchen.

In an exclusive interview with ONE Esports, Laurie and Victoria open up about their creative journey, the inspiration behind the book, and the biggest cooking hacks they’ve learned from creating it.
Way of the Househusband book “The Gangster’s Guide to Housekeeping” will teach you tasty recipes for everyday cooking
Season 2 of The Way of the Househusband (Gokushufudou in Japanese) tantalized fans with an array of dishes, crafted by the ingenious Tatsu. From intricately designed kids’ lunch platters to soft and fluffy fried donuts, these dishes ignited curiosity among viewers.
In The Way of the Househusband book, fans now have the opportunity to bring these meals to life in their own kitchens, following in the footsteps of the legendary gangster himself.
“All recipes were pulled directly from the manga,” Victoria said, who worked on all the recipes in the book. “My hope is this will inspire new home cooks to check out their local international market and to start venturing into more Japanese cooking.”
Fans can look forward to learning the secret to bringing out the flavors of a Hamburg steak plate, as well as finding out how to create an udon summer bowl tempura from scratch, among many others.
In fact, Victoria herself tried “the most challenging recipe in the book” herself, which required her to put in a decent amount of work to create handmade noodles.
“I got a good workout for it and the end result was a delicious chewy noodle,” she said.
Her biggest takeaway was something totally unexpected — she chopped up some mackerel and added them to the ground meat for the Hamburg steak “to bring a rich flavor” to the dish.
Aside from flavorful recipes, fans will also learn Tatsu’s best-kept secrets when it comes to maintaining your household, keeping relationships, and even flower arrangements.
“In the manga, we get a quick glimpse of how Tatsu does these tasks, but in the book, we really get to dig in and see how he’d deal with every detail,” Laurie said. “He has so much personality, it comes through every step of the way.”
Read these recipes and life hacks for yourself in The Way of the Househusband book.
The entire book is in English, with 192 pages full of tips and tricks on housekeeping, cooking, and a whole lot more, with colored illustrations and manga panels inserted in between.
The Way of the Househusband follows the life of Tatsu, a former legendary yakuza boss known as the “Immortal Dragon.” After leaving his criminal past behind, Tatsu decides to retire and become a full-time househusband to support his career-driven wife, Miku. Despite his intimidating appearance, Tatsu is a dedicated and loving husband who takes on household chores like cooking, cleaning, and grocery shopping.
