The elite swordsmen of the Demon Slayer Corps, the Hashira, have displayed incredible bravery and skill in their fight against the monstrous Muzan Kibutsuji.
After the events of Demon Slayer’s season 4 finale, it’s clear that Kagaya Ubuyashiki, the leader of the Demon Slayers, held the Stone Hashira, Gyomei Himejima, in particularly high regard.
While the anime and manga don’t explicitly state the reasons, this article explores why Ubuyashiki entrusted Gyomei, and only Gyomei, with his crucial and extreme plan to eliminate the Demon King.
We delve beyond the source material to uncover the factors that earned Gyomei this trust.
The Stone Hashira Gyomei Himejima was the one man Kagaya Ubuyashiki trusted to take out Muzan Kibutsuji
In Demon Slayer season 4 episode 8, the climactic battle between the Demon Slayers and Muzan Kibutsuji has finally kicked off. Muzan infiltrates the Demon Slayers’ headquarters, leading him to the hidden Ubuyashiki mansion, the home of the organization’s leader, Kagaya.
In the finale, Kagaya explains that the Ubuyashiki family carries a hereditary condition. Because their family line included a demon, which happened to be Muzan, each generation is cursed with a tragically short lifespan. This explains Kagaya’s frail health when Muzan confronts him.
What appeared to be Muzan gaining the upper hand was part of Kagaya’s elaborate, desperate plan. He, along with his wife Amane and daughters Hinaki and Nichika, made the ultimate sacrifice to weaken Muzan significantly by blowing up the Ubuyashiki mansion.
This heavy sacrifice gave the Demon Slayer one clear shot at taking out Muzan. So why did Kagaya only trust the Stone Hashira? Several key factors likely led Kagaya to trust Himejima with his extreme plan.
Firstly, Himejima is widely considered the strongest among the Hashira. This immense physical prowess was crucial for the final confrontation with a weakened Muzan.
Secondly, Himejima possesses a maturity and wisdom that surpasses his fellow Hashira. The flashback scene before Muzan’s attack showcases this. Even the fiery and outspoken Wind Hashira, Sanemi Shinazugawa, addresses Himejima with respect, calling him Himejima-san.
This respect is likely shared by the other Hashira, who see the 27-year-old Himejima as their senior.
Finally, Himejima’s loyalty and unwavering commitment to the cause make him the ideal candidate. Unlike some of the other Hashira who might have questioned or outright opposed such a self-sacrificial plan, Himejima would understand and respect Kagaya’s decision.
Kagaya’s trust in Himejima stemmed from a combination of factors: his unmatched strength, his mature demeanor that commanded respect from his peers, and his unwavering loyalty to the Demon Slayer cause.
These qualities made Himejima the perfect candidate to trust their best shot at taking out Muzan.
