In the finale, Kagaya explains that the Ubuyashiki family carries a hereditary condition. Because their family line included a demon, which happened to be Muzan, each generation is cursed with a tragically short lifespan. This explains Kagaya’s frail health when Muzan confronts him.
What appeared to be Muzan gaining the upper hand was part of Kagaya’s elaborate, desperate plan. He, along with his wife Amane and daughters Hinaki and Nichika, made the ultimate sacrifice to weaken Muzan significantly by blowing up the Ubuyashiki mansion.
This heavy sacrifice gave the Demon Slayer one clear shot at taking out Muzan. So why did Kagaya only trust the Stone Hashira? Several key factors likely led Kagaya to trust Himejima with his extreme plan.
