The chapter began with Prince Halkenburg’s funeral procession, carrying his coffin up a long staircase. Meanwhile, the Black Whale’s location was marked as Tuesday, the 12th, at 1 p.m. The scene shifted to the fourth prince’s soldiers, where Otachin reported that Borkson had gone missing.
Another soldier noted her last communication occurred just before the funeral procession, roughly 30 minutes earlier. The group speculated on her absence, suggesting possibilities ranging from sudden orders to her tracking someone suspicious. They ultimately concluded she had likely been kidnapped.
The soldiers discussed how such a kidnapping could occur, considering Borkson’s training and the crowded environment. They theorized it might have been a coordinated effort involving drugs or the use of Nen abilities.
Others speculated her abduction might be part of a larger plot, potentially targeting Prince Serayoid. They debated their no-contact policy for captured allies, weighing the risks of attempting a rescue.
The narrative followed Borkson, who had been taken to Morena Prudo’s hideout. Morena greeted her and proposed an alliance, comparing her to a compatible organ donor. Surrounded and unarmed, Borkson recognized her precarious position but suspected Nen abilities had played a role in her capture. Morena introduced a negotiation game, presenting it as a way to resolve the situation.
Morena explained the game’s mechanics. She held seven face-up cards, while Borkson had five face-down cards. The child (Borkson) would select one of the parent’s cards, which would then be sent to the graveyard, and the parent would reveal one of the child’s cards, also sending it to the graveyard.
The process would continue until one card remained, which would determine the outcome. The game included various card types: “yes” to agree to the parent’s demands, “no” to reject them, “R” to retrieve a card from the graveyard, “Joker” to act as either “yes” or “no,” and “X” to nullify the game if left as the last card.
Morena emphasized that refusing to play would result in losing all freedoms except the ability to say “yes” or “no.”
Borkson analyzed the game and identified several potential traps. Although the rules initially seemed to favor the child, the parent’s control over which cards were revealed undermined any advantage.
Morena elaborated on the parent cards, which could reveal her purpose, Nen abilities, or answer specific questions, but all came with restrictions. This reinforced Borkson’s belief that the game was stacked against her.
Despite her reservations, Borkson agreed to play on the condition that she would choose which cards to reveal. Morena accepted this condition, and the negotiation game began.
