Episode 9 threw us back into the intense brawl between Umemiya and Choji Tomiyama. Tomiyama grew increasingly frustrated as they traded blows, having wondered why his punches had no effect.

Umemiya cut deep, stating that Tomiyama had lacked a purpose behind his fighting.

Umemiya further pushed Tomiyama’s buttons by questioning his definition of freedom and expressing pity for Shishitoren’s having had him as their leader.

This threw Tomiyama into a rage, but Umemiya stood firm, refusing to fight back. It was a calculated move, aiming to force Tomiyama to confront his misguided beliefs and Shishitoren’s positive past.

Through flashbacks, we learned that Tomiyama’s drive stemmed from a desire to reach the top of Shishitoren, believing it would bring him fulfillment.

However, he found himself even more lost and unfulfilled upon reaching the top. Unable to find purpose, he blamed Shishitoren’s weakness for his emotional emptiness.

While Tomiyama struggled to keep his wits, Umemiya delivered the finishing blow with a brutal headbutt, knocking Tomiyama out.

Defeated and disillusioned, Tomiyama offered to surrender control of Shishitoren to Umemiya, even proposing to drop out of school. Umemiya, however, surprised everyone by refusing leadership and instead extended a hand of friendship to Tomiyama.
