The Apex Legends Global Series (ALGS) is a premier esports tournament circuit organized by EA and Respawn Entertainment for the developer’s popular battle royale game Apex Legends.
The ALGS is one of the leading battle royale esports tournaments in the world, offering both seasoned pros and new Apex Legends talents a chance to shine on the global stage.
EA’s Senior Brand Marketing Manager Jasmine Chiang is the face of Apex Legends Esports. A lifelong gamer, Chiang has professionally worked in the gaming space for nearly half a decade.
In an exclusive interview, we asked the Apex Legends Esports Global Brand Marketing Lead our biggest questions about the upcoming Split 2 playoffs, which kicks off on August 29.
We find out how the circuit breaks new ground in Europe and makes the esport more secure moving forward.
Putting the “Global” in ALGS
The circuit’s highly-anticipated return to Germany will let Apex fans from the region come together to celebrate another high-stakes tournament on the road to the Championship.
“Over the past few years, we’ve hosted LAN events on both coasts of the United States and in the United Kingdom, and we’re looking forward to coming to Germany for the first time and connecting with our fanbase in Eastern Europe,” Chiang told ONE Esports.
Big developments from other esports events made waves this year, including the inaugural Esports World Cup in Riyadh and an added tournament to the LoL esports calendar.
When asked about potential structural additions to the format, Apex Legends’ Esports Brand Lead merely said that there was “more to come on future ALGS competitions”.
“Layered updates” tightens security for Split 2 Playoffs according to Senior Brand Marketing Manager Jasmine Chiang
During the 2024 Regional Finals in North America, an incident occured when DarkZero’s Noyan “Genburten” Ozkose and Team Falcons’ Phillip “ImperialHal” Dosen were hacked mid-match.
This was confirmed by Respawn a few hours later, who temporarily suspended the event until complete “competitive integrity” could be achieved.
In response to a question about the security surrounding Split 2 Playoffs, Jasmine Chiang assured ONE Esports, saying that “our teams have been rolling out a series of security updates designed to protect players and preserve competitive integrity.”
“We’re confident in the efficacy of these layered updates, we have dedicated teams that continue to closely monitor and address any concerns that may impact ALGS play.”
No hacking incidents have been observed since the NA Regional Finals on March 18th.
Bigger and better
This will be the first time SAP Arena hosts a professional esports event.
The stadium is among the biggest and most tech-forward arenas on the continent, making it a promising venue for the Split 2 playoffs. And the esports team made sure of it.
“Organizing a global esports event involves months and months of complex planning from scouting locations to selecting a venue to locking floor plans,” Chiang remarked.
The SAP Arena has hosted some of the biggest concerts in the past decade from names like Justin Timberlake and Madonna.
Looking forward, Chiang shared, “We’re looking forward to merging SAP Arena’s latest technology with our team’s technical know-how to deliver another memorable show to our players and fans.”
