Black Ops 6 offers players the standard three perk slots, granting them performance boosters. But, it’s possible to gain an extra perk in Black Ops 6, thanks to the newly introduced Combat Speciality system.

Perks can best be defined as a performance booster for your operator, enhancing movement, map awareness, survivability, and combat abilities. Black Ops 6’s perk system stays true to the traditional ways, offering three slots for players to pick from 21 perks.

Each perk has an assigned number and can only be slotted into the perk slot that matches its number. This is pretty straightforward, but Treyarch has added a fun new twist with the Combat Speciality system.

Black Ops 6 extra perk guide

Understanding the new system can help you earn an extra perk in Black Ops 6, gaining an edge over enemies. Here’s how it works.

How to get an extra perk in Black Ops 6

The 21 perks in Black Ops 6 are divided into three categories: Enforcer (red), Recon (blue), and Strategist (green). Picking all three perks from the same color category unlocks a new specialty.

While players aren’t required to pick all perks from the same category, those who choose to stick with a distinct playstyle get rewarded with a specialty. For example, if you choose three perks from the Enforcer category, you’ll unlock a bonus perk, which will grant a temporary buff to movement speed and health regen rate upon killing an enemy. The same is the case for the other two combat specialties.

All combat specialties in Black Ops 6:

  • Enforcer: Killing enemies grants a temporary buff to movement speed and a health regen rate
  • Recon: Enemies can be seen through walls for a short time after respawning, a HUD edge indicator flashes when an enemy is outside your view, leave no death skulls when killing enemies
  • Strategist: Earn a score bonus for objectives and destroying enemy content through walls a short distance, deploy equipment and field upgrades faster

A minor tradeoff is losing the freedom to pick any perk you want. However, sometimes sticking to a single category can be the best strategy, though not all bonuses are worth the compromise.

For example, in Domination mode, the Strategist often provides a stronger advantage than the other two options. Meanwhile, Enforcer and Recon might offer more useful perks in Kill Order.

In some cases, sacrificing the freedom to mix and match perks for a bonus perk may not be worthwhile at all. However, if you’re set on gaining the extra perk in Black Ops 6, consider choosing the Enforcer specialty, as it includes some of the game’s best perks.

Perks like Dexterity, Assassin, Gung-Ho, and Double Time can significantly enhance mobility, speed, and stealth, giving you a strong edge in fast-paced combat.

That’s everything to know about getting the extra perk in Black Ops 6.
