Throwing cooked grenades has become a staple tactic for players looking to gain an edge in Modern Warfare 3 and Warzone.
In this ONE Esports guide, we explain what cooked grenades are, how to use them, and provide tips to maximize their effectiveness.
What are cooked grenades in MW3 and WZ?
Essentially, a cooked grenade is a frag or thermobaric grenade that has been held onto for a short period after the pin is pulled.
This process, known as “cooking,” reduces the fuse time, making the grenade explode almost immediately upon impact, and preventing enemies from having time to react, run away, or throw it back at you.
How to cook grenades and the advantages of using this tactic
To cook a grenade, players simply need to pull the pin and hold onto the grenade for a second or two before throwing it. The game provides visual cues to indicate when the grenade is ready to be thrown.
This technique is particularly effective in situations where it’s imperative to hinder the opponent’s ability to dodge the grenade or, more importantly, to prevent them from seizing it and tossing it back.
The optimal moments for using this strategy are when hurling grenades towards enemies in vast open spaces or within large interiors of buildings.
An additional advantage of using cooked grenades is its potential impact upon your death. If you die while clutching an activated grenade, it will drop on your death location, potentially harming or eliminating nearby foes.
However, precision in timing is crucial to maximize the effectiveness of your grenade, ensuring it explodes proximate to your target.
Overextending the cook time can lead to the grenade exploding prematurely in your possession, whereas insufficient cook time might allow opponents to evade the blast radius.
Now that you know how to cook grenades in MW3, it’s important to point out that this only applies to the frag and thermobaric grenades, and not to others like the Semtex.
