ESL has announced that the CS:GO ESL One Rio Major 2020, originally scheduled to take place from May 11-24, has been rescheduled to November 19-22 due to the worsening COVID-19 coronavirus situation in Brazil.
The competitive CS:GO circuit includes two Major competitions with a US$1 million prize pool each every year. As a result of the May Major being rescheduled, ESL stated that its prize pool will be added to that of the November Major, which will now have a US$2 million prize pool.
The tournament will stay in its original venue at the Jeunesse Arena in Rio De Janeiro and will also remain a Championship level event in the ESL Pro Tour and count towards winning the Intel Grand Slam.

Fans who purchased tickets for the May Major can still use them for the November Major, though they can also request for a refund if they do not want to retain the ticket for the rescheduled event.
CS:GO publisher, Valve Corporation, announced early last year that the game’s competitive circuits for 2020 and 2021 will hold their respective Majors in May and November. No tournament organizer has been announced for this year’s November Major yet, though it appears ESL may host it as a result of the cancellation of the May Major.
This year’s CS:GO Rio Major is not the only ESL-hosted and Valve-sponsored Major event to be disrupted by the coronavirus pandemic, as the ESL One Los Angeles Major Dota 2 had also been canceled earlier this month by the worsening outbreak in the United States.
