The Dota 2 meta has undergone a lot of changes in the past, from the debut of crossbow-wielding squirrels to the introduction of neutral item drops. It can be hard to keep track of which heroes are worth playing at the moment, but fortunately, there will always be some that remain decent and stable throughout the years.
Here are five Dota 2 support heroes that will always be relevant no matter the meta.
5. Witch Doctor
Witch Doctor has been picked a lot in professional Dota 2, even in the recent Dota Pro Circuit (DPC) matches where his abilities like Paralyzing Cask and Maledict create game-changing situations for the team, just like Kim “DuBu” Doo-young’s play here.
He remains a solid pick even in pub games with his high lane presence. Once you see WD dancing around, uninterrupted and his Death Ward causing chaos to opponents, it’s going to be a moment of pure bliss.
4. Lion
In Dota, the team that can deal the most disables win team fights. Lion is a pretty reliable hero and arguably a timeless pick when it comes to giving out these crowd control abilities that your team needs to win.

Three out of four of Lion’s abilities can be used to stun, disable, and drain mana which can all be very handy in a fight. If you are already familiar with how to position yourself and use Lion’s abilities during a clash, then fret not — a favorable team fight will follow.
3. Crystal Maiden
Crystal Maiden serves more than just looks — she is also one of the game’s reliable support heroes!
Players usually pick CM for her global passive, Arcane Aura, which grants you and your teammates that much-needed mana regeneration especially during the start of a game. The rest of her kit also offers a ton of disables that deal a decent amount of damage. Crystal Maiden’s ultimate, Freezing Field, is an AoE ability that slows down enemies long enough to turn fights to your team’s favor.
She’s also a great support-jungler who can stack two camps at once. CM was even used as a semi-carry by Team Liquid a few years back.

2. Earthshaker
Earthshaker remains to be a popular Position 4 pick in Dota 2 with his lengthy stun duration that’s great for initiating team fights.
He can become quite the beast during the late game especially with his Echo Slam. With Earthshaker, it’s all about good positioning and finding the perfect timing to cast your stuns and literally shake up your opponents.
1. Rubick
How would you like a Dota hero that’s so versatile, he can literally copy an opponent’s ability? Rubick is his name, and that is exactly his game!
The highlight of his kit is his ultimate Spell Steal, which copies the last spell that the targeted enemy has cast. Pick this guy during the drafting phase if you see the enemy heroes own valuable spells that you can steal, like Earthshaker’s Fissure or Tidehunter’s Ravage.
