Among Us, the 5-man stack, filled with some of Southeast Asia’s best Dota 2 players, has been destroying the region’s top teams in the third season of the BTS Pro Series SEA online tournament.
Among Us was on an undefeated win streak in the group stage, since the competition started on September 12. But the SEA superteam received their first loss of the tournament after being defeated by an unpredictable Neon Esports squad, who punished Among Us for running a midlane Snapfire with Abed “Abed” Yusop in Game 1.
In the second game of their group stage match against Neon, Among Us decided to go with a conventional draft with a Magnus on Abed, while Nuengnara “23savage” Teeramahanon was given the hard carry Lifestealer.
Among Us dominated the early stages of the game by shutting down Erin Jasper “Yopaj” Ferrer’s Queen of Pain, who tried to make plays in the side-lanes. But, with Carlo “Kuku” Palad’s offlane Rubick making plays all around the map, Neon Esports was forced to play defensively and look for the right opportunity to get back into the game.
At the 15-minute mark of Game 2, Neon found their opportunity. Four Neon members found 23savage’s Lifestealer farming an Ancient camp after a well-timed smoke gank. They immediately used all their spells in an attempt to burst down the enemy hard carry.
Sadly, for Neon, right when they were about to kill 23savage, Abed jumped in and used his Reverse Polarity ultimate to shut down the Radiant team’s gank attempt. Anucha “Jabz” Jirawong then ran in and used his Impale as a follow-up stun, which allowed Among Us to get the full teamwipe.
Among Us would then finish the game nine minutes later. With a 20,000 gold lead at their disposal, Abed and company pushed into the Radiant base and ended the match against Neon with a 1-1 draw. Abed finished the game with an 11/0/16 KDA score in Game 2.
Among Us’ stack has already secured the top spot, going into the playoffs with an impressive 15-1 record. They will have one last group stage match on September 23 against BOOM Esports, the team right behind them in the standings with a 13-3 record.
