South American team, Beastcoast, used unconventional Broodmother and mid Disruptor picks to pull off a major upset at The Leipzig Major, eliminating Team Nigma in a Lower Bracket Playoff game.
Beastcoast opened the series by picking Broodmother for Jean Pierre “Chris Luck” Gonzales, whose swarming aggression and Orchid Malevolence pick-up countered Aliwi “w33” Omar’s Outworld Devourer and threw a wrench in Nigma’s game plan.
Beastcoast’s mid player scored multiple Triple Kills as he led his team in stunning their opponents and getting a leg up in the series.

Nigma bounced back in game two to force the series to a deciding game three, where Beastcoast threw another curveball at them by picking a Disruptor for Chris Luck.
While Chris Luck’s hero is usually played as a support, he was key in controlling the teamfights for his team and letting his fellow cores — Hector Antonio “K1 Hector” Rodriguez on Faceless Void and Rodrigo “Lelis” Santos on Legion Commander — deal the damage.
The surging South American squad outfought their more-favored opponents and forced them to call GG after 42 minutes to secure the upset.
With their win, Beastcoast secure a Top 8 finish at the Leipzig Major and move on to the next round of the Lower Bracket where they will be facing Invictus Gaming.
It’s another impressive showing for the top South American team following their run to an improbable Top 8 placement at the International 2019 (TI9). This run is made even more impressive by the fact that Beastcoast had to compete in this Major with Lelis standing in for offlaner Adrian “Wisper” Cespedes Dobles, who is out due to a health issue.
Meanwhile, Nigma bow out of the Leipzig Major in 9th-12th place, with US$25,000 and 150 Dota Pro Circuit points in consolation.
It’s a disappointing outcome for the lineup that notably came in second place at TI9 and was pegged as one of the favorites to win the Leipzig Major, even if they had to go through the WePlay! Bukovel Minor to get there first.
