Indonesian squad BOOM Esports defeated North American team Business Associates (BA), 2-1, in their elimination match at the StarLadder ImbaTV Kyiv Minor 2020. The upset was highlighted by a huge Aegis of the Immortal snatch by BOOM in the first game of the series.

The teams opened the series with similar strategies built around a hard carry intended to take the game late, paired with a tempo-controlling core to see them through the midgame. BA picked Spectre for David “Moo” Hull alongside Templar Assassin for Leon “Nine” Kirilin, while BOOM opted for Phantom Lancer for Randy “Dreamocel” Sapoetra and Kunkka for Rafli “Mikoto” Rahman.

The two sides were on relatively even ground 20 minutes into the game and BA attempted to take Roshan to fuel their momentum even if BOOM was close by, believing that Braxton “Brax” Paulson’s Mars would win them the Rosh fight should it break out.

A great Impale from Brizio “Hyde” Putra’s Nyx Assassin from outside the pit just as Roshan died prevented BA from picking up the Aegis, however. This allowed Mikoto to snatch the Aegis, setting the stage for the rest of BOOM to clean up four additional kills.

That Aegis steal took the wind out of the sails of the BA lineup while allowing BOOM to snowball, with the Indonesian squad winning another clash by the river to further their lead.

With BA’s lineup far from being in fighting shape, BOOM was able to destroy their middle and bottom melee barracks by the 27-minute mark and rack up four pickoffs across the map shortly afterwards to get poised to take the game.

A last ditch attempt by the North American squad to contest BOOM’s Roshan attempt at the 30-minute mark only ended in them feeding four more kills and conceding game one of the series.

While BA bounced back in game two to force the series to a game three, BOOM closed them out in the decider as the North American squad became the first team to be eliminated from the Kyiv Minor.

Business Associates bow out of contention with a disappointing 7th-8th place finish, bagging US$12,000 in consolation.
