North American esports organization, Chaos Esports Club, has announced the release of its entire Dota 2 roster as a result of the suspension of the 2019-2020 Dota Pro Circuit (DPC) season caused by the COVID-19 coronavirus pandemic.
The ongoing pandemic has virtually ground the DPC to a halt, with the ESL One Los Angeles Major being postponed earlier this month and the DOTA PIT Minor and EPICENTER Major in May also being canceled.
Only one Major tournament, the ONE Esports Singapore Major, remains on the calendar before The International 2020 is set to begin in August. With that said, the status of the season’s last Major remains up in the air as the coronavirus outbreaks around the world continues to worsen.
“Regrettably we must make significant changes to our business in the aftermath of the pandemic that is currently affecting the world. Due to the suspension of the 2019-2020 Dota Pro Circuit, we will be releasing our Dota 2 roster in its entirety. This comes after significant deliberation with all affected parties and we are doing our utmost to make sure they are being accommodated during this transition. We are grateful for their time with us and hope they find another home that is suitable to players of their caliber as quickly as possible,” Chaos EC said in a statement.
“This is not a decision we made lightly, but during these uncertain times and with the DPC circuit suspended it is impossible for us to justify the cost of a Dota 2 team at this time. The world is an unprecedented situation and it is necessary for us to focus our efforts into a few key current & upcoming projects for the long term success of the organization,” added Chaos EC CEO Greg Laird.
Chaos EC first acquired its Dota 2 roster this season back in November, notably finishing second at the Dota Summit 11 and 13th-16th at DreamLeague Season 13: The Leipzig Major. The team also qualified for the Los Angeles Major prior to the event being postponed.
Chaos EC’s former roster is staying together and will continue to compete, however, as stated by team manager Jack “KBBQ” Chen.
Chaos EC former Dota 2 roster:
- Yawar “Yawar” Hassan
- Quinn “Quinn” Callahan
- Arif “MSS” Anwar
