The road to The International 2020 has officially begun with the start of the 2019-2020 Dota Pro Circuit Regional Qualifiers for the MDL Chengdu Major.
The best Chinese Dota 2 teams battled it out to see who will make it to the first Valve Major of the new DPC season. 10 teams were split into two groups, where they all had to play each other in a best-of-two round-robin format. After two days of competitive Dota 2, the top two teams from each group advance to the playoffs. For the Chinese Regional Qualifier, three invites have been allotted, which means three out of the four teams that reach the playoffs will make it to the MDL Chengdu Major.
During Day 1 of the qualifiers for the Chinese Region, Vici Gaming and the newly assembled Team Aster took the top spot of their respective groups. Vici Gaming defeated iG 2-0, then they tied with Sirius with a 1-1 match over in Group A. Team Aster was able to defeat Royal Never Give Up 2-0, then they tied with Newbee 1-1 over in Group B.
On the following day of the qualifiers, both VG and EHOME secured the top spot over in Group A. VG defeated Look For Smile (LFS) 2-0 and EHOME bested Sirius 2-0. And, their best-of-two match ended in a tie with both VG and EHOME winning one game each.
Over in Group B, all the matches finished in stalemates, except for Team Aster, who finished in first-place of Group B. RNG was then able to defeat Newbee in a best-of-one tiebreaker match, which advanced them to the playoffs.
During the semi-final matches, VG was able to lock down their invite to the Chengdu Major by defeating RNG in a highly contested 2-1 match.
The next team to make it to the Major was Team Aster after they defeated EHOME in a grueling best-of-three series.
The last match of the Chinese qualifiers came down to EHOME besting RNG 2-1 during the third-place lower bracket match-up.
