The ONE Esports Singapore Major all came down to a Grand Final match between Evil Geniuses and Invictus Gaming.

Both teams have had an incredible tournament run before the best-of-five match, but once everything was said and done, it was Invictus Gaming who lifted the ONE Esports Singapore Major championship belt.

Here’s a full recap of how the match unfolded:

Game 1

Evil Geniuses started the series with a bang, picking up two team fight focused cores Leshrac and Storm Spirit. IG decided to go with two hard carry cores that would need time to farm in Morphling and Naga Siren, and it did not work out well for them.

With Abed “Abed” Yusop and Artour “Arteezy” Babaev always looking for fights, their support Mirana played by Andreas “Cr1t-” Nielsen set them up perfectly by landing full duration Sacred Arrows that caught IG, who was playing from behind early.

With EG applying so much pressure on IG’s side of the map whenever they won a team fight, they were ready to follow up by taking the next objective. Seeing no way back into the game, IG decided to quickly call gg.

Game 2

The match continued to get worse for IG as they were completely dominated in the second game. IG got desperate and went with the Faceless Void that completely fell flat against EG’s superior lineup.

IG also tried to run their offlane Alchemist that gifted an Aghanim’s Scepter to their Void Spirit. But, even with this boost to their midlaner, they lacked the damage to kill EG’s heroes and quickly fell in Game 2.

Game 3

With their backs against the wall, things were looking dire for Invictus Gaming, but they managed to turn things around with an absolutely massive Game 3 that started with them drafting their signature heroes. The Chinese team also had a strong laning phase against EG, getting early kills around the map.

However, Evil Geniuses would take control in the mid-game getting clean kills with perfectly set up plays from Cr1t- who was having an MVP level performance.

Invictus Gaming stayed resilient and managed to get themselves back into the game after Jin “flyfly” Zhiyi’s Sven became the strongest hero on the map.

Once IG’s other heroes were finally able to catch up to EG’s gold and hero experience, the Chinese team snowballed out of control as flyfly became the ultimate carry in Game 3.

At the end of the game, Zhou “Emo” Yi hit the entire EG squad with the all-chat question mark after being constantly tipped by his opponents. After the game, the question mark started trending around the Dota world, with personalities and teams everywhere tweeting their own ‘?’.

Game 4

IG ramped up their momentum at the start of Game 4 with the team rallying behind Emo. Each time IG got a kill in the early game, they would tip Abed as both teams were engaged in a mental warfare battle.

The Chinese squad only got better as the game continued. IG would eventually push the series to a final game after flyfly’s Troll Warlord became too much for EG to handle.

Game 5

In the final game of the series, Evil Geniuses were clearly in trouble, and with the momentum firmly on Invictus Gaming’s side, they seized their opportunity and capitalized on EG’s mistakes.

Hu “kaka” Liangzhi had one of the best performances we’ve seen on a support Lion ever. As a low health support hero, he was playing the initiator for his team and constantly caught out Arteezy’s Lifestealer.

After just over 40 minutes, it was all over, as IG closed out the game, and with it the series, completing one of the greatest comebacks of all time.

With Invictus Gaming’s first-place finish at the Singapore Major, they go home with US$200,000 and 500 DPC points, which guarantees them a spot at this year’s TI.

While runners-up Evil Geniuses will be disappointed they couldn’t close out the Grand Final, they still walk away with US$100,000 in prize money and 450 DPC points.
