Fnatic continues to reign over the SEA region by winning the ESL One Birmingham 2020 Online: Southeast Asia. The team defeated surging Indonesian squad, BOOM Esports, 3-1 in the grand final of the tournament.

This is the fourth straight tournament win for Fnatic. First, it won the Dota Summit 12 tournament, one of the last LAN events before the COVID-19 pandemic forced tournament organizers to postpone or cancel their events.

Next, Fnatic won two online tournaments, the ESL One Los Angeles 2020: Online Southeast Asia and BTS Pro Series: Southeast Asia in April. Now, its win at ESL One Birmingham 2020 makes it four for four, after Valve decided to postpone this year’s Dota Pro Circuit.

Game One

Fnatic won the first game of the series with an MVP performance from Kam “Moon” Boon Seng, who finished the game with a 14/0/16 KDA record on his middle lane Death Prophet. Meanwhile, Daryl Koh “iceiceice” Pei Xiang secured the play of the game by baiting in BOOM’s Rafli Fathur “Mikoto” Rahman with a heads-up play by teleporting right in front of the enemy Dragon Knight. In response, Mikoto took the bait and initiated a team fight with Nuengnara “23savage” Teeramahanon’s Faceless Void waiting in the sidelines with his Chronosphere ultimate.

Fnatic then extended their lead by winning the remaining team fights of the first game. And, with Fnatic’s 20,000 gold lead, they stormed the Radiant base and forced BOOM Esports to call good game.

Game Three

After losing the second game to BOOM Esports, Fnatic secured their second win of the series with an impressive group effort with all five of their players recording 84 total assists in game three.

Game Four

In the last game of the series, Moon proved to be the difference-maker for Fnatic once again by dominating BOOM with his middle lane Storm Spirit.

With Djardel “DJ” Mampusti’s Bounty Hunter casting Track on multiple BOOM heroes, Moon was able to target and isolate enemy support heroes by using his Ball Lightning ultimate to pick them off which also helped his team secure a notable gold advantage by securing Track kills.

Fnatic finished the tournament with a perfect Overgrowth from iceiceice’s Treant Protector that trapped four BOOM heroes in place. This gave Moon and 23savage the opportunity they needed to clean up the remaining Radiant heroes and finish the series, 3-1.

With Fnatic’s first-place finish at ESL One Birmingham 2020 Online: Southeast Asia, they have been awarded US$15,000 for their efforts. Meanwhile, BOOM Esports’ runner-up finish secured the Indonesian team US$10,000 in prize money.

Both Fnatic and BOOM Esports now shift their attention to the ONE Esports Dota 2 SEA League, along with TNC Predator, T1, Reality Rift, Team Adroit, Geek Fam, and three more teams who will earn their spots through the online qualifiers on June 4-5 and June 6-7.
