The ONE Esports Dota 2 Singapore World Pro Invitational officially kicked-off today with Day 1 of the Group Stage.

The first match of the day saw CIS powerhouse, Virtus.pro, going up against European juggernauts, Team Secret.

Game One

To start the tournament, both teams went with dynamic new picks in the draft phase. Team Secret decided to go with a Magnus in the middle lane for Michal “Nisha” Jankowski. Meanwhile, VP went with a Meepo for Vladimir “No[o]ne” Minenko.

Right at the start of the game, VP’s Meepo pick struggled to gain momentum because of Secret’s hero rotations. The European squad knew that stopping the Meepo from snowballing was the only way VP would win the game, so they decided to put on the pressure once the game finished the laning stage.

With VP’s Meepo pick failing to make an impact in the game, Team Secret continued to crush the CIS squad during team fights and eventually finished game one at the 28-minute mark.

Game Two

Team Secret drafted a position 1 Ursa for Lasse “Matumbaman” Urpalainen, an Outworld Devourer for Nisha, and Beastmaster for Ludwig “zai” Wahlberg.

Virtus.pro drafted a better middle hero for No[o]ne, along with a Troll Warlord and Legion Commander cores.

VP had a better start to game two with No[o]ne getting key pickoffs against Secret’s core heroes.

But Team Secret showed their amazing team fight capability by team wiping VP in the middle lane.

Dota 2 caster, Ioannis “Fogged” Loucas, was keen to point out that VP’s lineup excelled in initiating against Secret, but they lacked team fight potential, and this carried out throughout game two.

Team Secret tried to extend their lead by taking down Roshan. VP was aware of this and tried to contest it, but it eventually led to Team Secret securing their game two victory. After VP failed to take down Nisha’s Outworld Devourer, Secret wiped the CIS squad and ran down the middle lane to go up 2-0 in Group A.
