Vici Gaming and Team Liquid, two teams that were in desperate need of wins matched up against each other to close out Day 1 of the ONE Esports Dota 2 Singapore World Pro Invitational Group Stage.

After a close victory in game one, Vici Gaming stomped their European opponents in the second game earning a 2-0 victory and two crucial points.

Game one

At the start of the first game, both teams went with heroes they were comfortable with. Team Liquid drafted a Morphling for Michael “miCKe” Vu and a Sand King for Tommy “Taiga Le. Meanwhile, VG drafted around Eurus’ Gyrocopter and a Puck for Zeng “Ori” Jiaoyang.

After VG took control of the laning stage, Team Liquid decided to rotate their entire squad towards the Radiant jungle to get key pickoffs. VG tried to do the same a few moments later, but Liquid was countered their gank attempt with an Epicenter ultimate from Taiga.

VG took back control of game one at the 35-minute mark by winning a convincing team fight just outside their base. Eurus on the Gyrocopter eventually out-farmed the rest of Team Liquid’s core heroes and continued shredding the Dire squad with his Flak Cannon ability.

With a 36,000 gold lead advantage against their European opponents, VG ended game one by taking down the Dire Throne.

Game two

In game two, Team Liquid hoped that they could surprise VG with a Huskar middle lane pick for Maximilian “qojqva” Brocker that did not work out at all. VG took control of the map by going 18-2 for the first 25 minutes of the game.

Team Liquid got completely shredded during a team fight at the Rosh Pit. With full map control on VG’s side, Team Liquid took an ill-advised Outpost team fight that forced the European squad to tap out of game two.

Vici Gaming finished the day with a 2-2 record, while Team Liquid ends their Day 1 Group Stage run with a 0-4 finish.
