Beastcoast and Team Unknown have qualified for the first Major of the 2018-2019 Dota Pro Circuit (DPC) season in Chengdu through the South American (SA) qualifier.
While Beastcoast was expected to be the new top team in SA and qualify for the Major after signing Team Anvorgesa, who notably finished in the Top 8 of TI9 while playing under the Infamous banner, underdogs Team Unknown had to fight tooth and nail to earn their invite.
Both teams entered the qualifier playoffs from Group A, with Beastcoast having a perfect 8-0 record while Unknown barely scraped by with a 4-4 line.
Beastcoast made short work of their first playoff opponent, Team Incubus, who came out of Group B with a 5-3 record, winning 2-0. They faced off against paiN Gaming next, who topped Group B with a clean 8-0 record.
While Beastcoast won the first game handily in just under 23 minutes, paiN shut down their Broodmother pick in an 18-minute game two to tie the series.
Despite a surprise Techies pick from their opponents, Beastcoast’s aggressive yet methodical play prevailed as they eventually took the series, 2-1, securing themselves the first SA spot in the Chengdu Major.

Unknown overcame Incubus in their lower bracket matchup, including an 83-minute marathon in the deciding game three, to force a rematch with paiN for the remaining Major invite.
Unknown then pulled out all the stops to sweep paiN, 2-0, with unconventional tri-cores in Tinker, Faceless Void, and Bristleback in game one and Meepo, Chaos Knight, and Death Prophet in game two, to punch their ticket to Chengdu.
The MDL Chengdu Major will be held from November 16-24, with a US$1 million prize pool and 15,000 DPC points up for grabs. The Major will be preceded by the Dota Summit 11 Minor on November 7-10.
