After a crazy week in the SEA Open Qualifiers that actually saw them eliminated at one point, Team SMG has now secured its spot in the DPC SEA Lower Division Season 2.
Team SMG’s path through the Open Qualifiers had been fairly easy until they met Team D in their quarterfinal match. Team D had clearly prepared for SMG’s every move and ruthlessly punished small mistakes, extending their lead at every opportunity. After going down 0-2 to Team D, it was the end of the road for Team SMG.
However, just a day later, PGL announced that Team D had been disqualified from the Open Qualifier due to carry player Cheng “vtFαded” Jia Hao only leaving his previous team, Team Mystery, after the April 6 transfer deadline, making him ineligible to play for Team D.

Team D’s disqualification gave Team SMG a second chance, and they took full advantage of it, looking much better in their semifinal series against Shinigami.
After a quick 2-0 win, Team SMG were just one win away from making it to the Lower Division.
In their final match, Team SMG faced Patriots. While Patriots put up a good fight early on in both games, Team SMG managed to seize momentum once the midgame hit and took the 2-0 victory.
Team SMG’s performance in the Open Qualifiers has been a bit of a rollercoaster ride, with the team opting for some odd drafts and looking uncoordinated at times. However, the roster is very experienced and boasts SEA legend, Chai “Mushi” Yee Fung, and ex-OG and Team Secret carry, Yeik “MidOne” Nai Zheng, and we expect them to be able to iron our their kinks before the Lower Division starts.
Team SMG’s full roster:
- Yeik “MidOne” Nai Zheng
- Muhammad “Neah666” Ammar Rasulli Bin Jamil
- Damien “kpii” Chok
- Tue “ah fu” Soon Chuan
- Chai “Mushi” Yee Fung
