Tencent has revealed its esports plans for its patriotic China-approved PUBG Mobile clone, Game for Peace.
The Chinese developer announced that the Game for Peace Tencent Game Arena (TGA) will be the game’s first official esports tournament, and will take place sometime in July in the city of Xi’an.
Professional teams who want to take part in the tournament will first need to register on Tencent’s Verification Management System. Only esports organizations with capital of at least 1 million RMB (US$130,000) will be eligible to participate.
After a team is successfully verified, it will be automatically qualified for the Tencent-organized training competition, which can lead to qualification for TGA.
Tencent is also looking to hire shoutcasters for the tournament, and plans to recruit them online and from three Chinese universities: China Communication University, Zhejiang University of Media and Communication, and Shanghai Theatre Academy, reported The Esports Observer.
On May 7, Tencent shut down its PUBG Mobile servers in China and migrated all players to Game for Peace, a PUBG Clone approved by the Chinese Government that removes all blood and player deaths. Game for Peace has already become a huge success, topping the Chinese app store charts, and making US$14 million in revenue in its first three days alone.
