If you already spend all of your waking hours playing video games and that’s still not enough, the Pokémon Company has good news for you: You’ll soon be able to game in your sleep.
The company announced Pokémon Sleep today, a revolutionary new game coming sometime in 2020 that aims to do for sleeping what Pokémon GO did for walking.
The game will use a new device being developed by Nintendo called the Pokémon GO Plus +. It works like the existing Pokémon GO Plus but also acts as a sleep monitoring device thanks to a built-in accelerometer and gyroscope. The device will track your sleep and score you based on how long you were asleep, how well you slept, and what time you woke up. All of these factors will affect the gameplay.
“The concept of this game is for players to look forward to waking up every morning,” said Tsunekazu Ishihara, president and CEO of The Pokémon Company.
To celebrate the announcement of the game, Pokémon GO players will see an increased chance of Snorlax encounters around the world from now until June 3 at 1 p.m. PDT.
Pokémon Sleep is being co-developed by Japanese company, Select Button, who also made the Magikarp Jump game.
Other announcements from today’s Pokémon Press Conference include Pokémon Home, a new Cloud-based service coming later this year that will integrate 3DS, Switch, and Mobile Pokémon games into one hub and let users trade and interact with each other across platforms, a new Detective Pikachu game for the Switch, and Pokémon Masters, a new mobile game that will feature all of your favorite Pokémon trainers.
