Nintendo finally dropped the v5.0.0 patch update for Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, introducing Banjo-Kazooie to the roster and a few balancing fixes for characters, especially Hero.

With Banjo-Kazooie as the third DLC fighter in SSBU, we are eager to see the pros use the quirky bear-and-bird duo in-game.

From the pair’s reveal trailer released during E3, it appears that Banjo-Kazooie have a strong aerial presence capitalizing on Banjo’s jump pad and Kazooie’s flying ability. BK’s offense seems to be all-around, sporting a heavy 3-hit standing combo for close combat and ball and grenade projectiles for zoning.

Aside from Banjo-Kazooie’s debut, Nintendo made a few quick changes in terms of gameplay. Players now have to input their dodges after landing rather than during. The developers saw this as a way to make movements more fluid, pushing players to be more attentive in terms of their recovery.

As for fighter-specific fixes, Hero gets the most significant changes in the game. The Dragon Quest character had been under a lot of criticism for an overpowered move that could kill an opponent at 0%.

It seems that the developers are now tuning Hero to be a more spell-based fighter, adjusting her Kafrizz and Magic Burst moves. This may appease the Smash community since the tweaks morph Hero to be a more specials-based character rather than a one-trick pony.
